Large 14cc AP Lap Banders Help

Recommended Posts

Okay i have a large 14cc ap band and well, honestly i haven't had a fill yet but i dont' seem to have any problems eating anything. I can eat up to probably 2 cups but i try to refrain. definitely much less then before the band. I don't seem to have to chew my food well either. Im kind of worried. Ive heard so many horror stories about food stuck etc. even before people get a fill but again i have seriously no issues. I have eaten everything from steak, chicken, lamb and the most taboo thing re-heated food. So im wondering possibly if its because i have such a large band. Maybe thats why im having no issues? Also maybe after i get a fill i will start having issues? Anyways let me know how it is going with you all so i can maybe compare. Im really hoping i don't have like a slip or something and that is why their is no problems with food. I FINALLY get a fill Sept. 22. They wanted to wait till 3 mth check up becuase i am continually losing weight. But wow im gonna say these next few weeks are gonna be tough cause im hungry. Thanks in advance for sharing, you all rock!!

Yea I know how you feel I was able to eat anything too I thought the same things is something wrong did I have a slip is it in there. But no worries I had my fill last week and I still feel like I can eat a bit too much and I got 3ccs in a 10cc band so I thought man do I need another fill already. Today I got brave and had a morning star Breakfast sausage with eng muffin mayo and an egg and a slice of Tomato well I got stuck and you know what I'm glad I did because now I know it is working I hope to feel full on less food though.I'm going to go to the store and buy me some smart ones and at least I will have Portion Control. Good luck and try not to worry.

When you get your fill you will see some change.

I have a 14cc band too. And like you, I was able to eat anything and everything! There was absolutely no difference between what and how much I could eat before and right after surgery. I was sure something was wrong with me and my band. I was so hungry all the time!!

But I got filled last Thursday. I'm up to 6.5cc's in the band now. And even though I haven't had that "full" feeling I'm supposed to have, I've gotten stuck 4 times. I just took too big bites and didn't chew enough.

Now I believe I have the band and that it's working like it should. Just hang in there! I'm sort of scared to eat now, so even though I do get hungry, I talk myself out of eating until meal time.

I got a 14cc band in June, and the dr. prefilled it with 4cc's. I have had 3 more fills since then and am at a total of 9cc's now. I have great restriction now. Don't worry it will come. I started getting fills at 6 weeks post op so never got to the 2 cup volume of food but was at least a cup and now I am definitely at the 1/2 cup mark. Also my first fill was 3cc's and that large of a fill must've irritated my band as I was super tight for a day or so and thought oh no I am going to need an unfill. It only lasted 2 days, evidently the swelling went down and then I had way less restriction. I read some place that a large fill can do that. Just forewarning you in case when they finally give your first one and it's a large one.

I also have a 14cc band with 2.2 cc's put in it at 7 weeks........no restriction what so ever........I can eat anything and everything the only limit is the amount and that is because I limit it....all self control...

I tried to get an appointment sooner but couldn't so I am going next Friday for a fill.....

I hope this one will give me restriction just enough to limit my amount and keep me full for 4 or 5 hours

......I like being able to eat from all food groups and do not want to have any stuck episodes I just want to eat like my skinny friends nothing off limits but just small amounts.....

What you are experiencing is normal........ we are all in this together!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
