Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I went to the doc afraid to get another fill but after we talked the nurse decided I could get a 0.2 fill. So far it's ok. Nothing has changed on what I can eat but I definitely notice I get full and it stays with me longer.

I have to say reading these posts, I am just now at 42 learning how "normal" people eat. I have always had a weight problem and everyone in my family was overweight. In high school I would lose weight and my diet consisted of starving until I came home after school and then eating 1 or 2 bowls of Captain crunch mixed with cool whip. Yep, I said it! Then a few hours later there was dinner and of course eat until your stuffed because every other fat person at the table was pigging out and there may be none left for you. Was that too harsh?? Back then dexatrim was the drug of choice to kill the hunger. Healthy, healthy. My downfall is ice cream. I know I have to really concentrate on the Proteins because they definitely keep me full and I lose the cravings.

Good luck to everyone, stay strong.

Niecey

That is great that you were able to get that small fill. I understand what you are talking about with the bad eating from the past. We are on the good road now. I think it is great that we are walking this journey together. We can do this. You keep up the good work.

I agree; I see the doctor next week and I am sure I need a fill. I am hungry but still losing about 1 lb per week. I am glad to hear you can get a tiny fill. I worry because sometimes I am still tight. Good Luck to ALL!

Hi everyone!!! I haven't been to this thread in awhile but I'll try to pop in more often. It's cool to see how other bansters from sept are doing. :-)

I've lost about 35 lbs since 9-25. Rather slow but I'm ok w/ that because I have not been killing myself. I could have done better but I was not exercising & did eat things I shouln't have sometimes. Yesterday I started at the gym. So, I'm hoping it'll start coming off faster. I'm going to Jamaica in about 5wks! So, it's crunch time!!!! I want to get down another size by then.

I haven't needed a fill since

dec 22nd (almost 8 wks)!! Well, I have been a bit hungry in the last 1-2wks. I get my next fill on the mon, 23rd.

Hang in there all!!!!!

Teri, so glad to hear you are feeling better. It must be hard to have something like this happen. But you are on the mend and your tummy has had time to rest.

So how is everything going? Let me know, I know you have been under a lot of stress lately.

Debbie

Went to Family get together yesterday and I am so PISSED!!!:(

Okay, first, I am so very proud of myself. I have worked HARD to get where I am. I wear a very loose 18 down from a 28. Pretty Good RIGHT?????

I got my "good" bra and a tight sweater, yes I wanted to show off. Maybe that is why I am upset. I wore my "thin" jeans, even though they are now too big. My Mother was blown away as was my Daughter and Son and their families. My SISTER IN LAW walked in and announced - I've lost 13 pounds on Weight Watchers. The next several hours was about how much she has lost and how she is down to a 12. She never took a breath, she just kept on talking about her losses.

Okay if she doesn't wear an 18 or 20 - I am the EASTER BUNNY!!!!!;)

I never brag about myself, so I sat there and fummed. My Cousin (elderly) brought up to my other Cousin, her brother, the doctor (never thought I would be able to say that), that I had a band and he asked me a few questions. My SISTER IN LAW cut in and hijacked the conversation. Okay, I didn't know the Cousins were going to be there, but I guess I was really proud of how I looked. YES, I WAS INTO MYSELF. I know I am not all that, but damn it, she lost 13 pounds and I have lost a WHOLE lot more.

While she is "on stage" she tells me that she just had to make the decission to do something. I mentioned the band and she treats me like a FREAK. She has always been very heavy, and her Mom's weight took years off her life. I don't mind talking about the band, but I guess I have to learn to shut up to her.

So I guess I learned a lesson about "gloating" and being all that or thinking you are. :huh2:

I guess I should not have expected less from her. She is one of those that when you call, the entire conversation is about her and her illnesses and her job and her everything. I just let her talk, but yesterday it just got to me.

Now I am ashamed, I should not have shown off like I did and I guess karma slapped me in the face. :D

I guess I will never learn. Debbie

debbieperez.....i know how you feel. I'm losing slow....verrrrry slow. Only about 20ish pounds after 9/25 surgery. My parents joined WW just a month ago and mom lost 10 and dad, 16. I commented how they're losing "more" than me...but the difference is that I KNOW they will go back to their bad habits and gain it back and start the vicious cycle over again.

What you're doing.....phenomenal loss and is a life change.

My mom even commented how my dad thinks when he hits the "10%" he can add food back. Whoaaaa! he just doesn't get it.

So...the 13 pounder will be quiet next reunion when she's gained it back and you'll be even lighter and healthier.

Don't sweat it. Not worth it. And congrats on your loss

Hello all Samurais! i don't really post here often. I had my surgery 9/25/08 and I've only lost about 20 pounds. When I read all the big numbers it gets me a little upset. I know I could "do more" but I'm evolving and learning to live this new life. I'm losing slow...but I'll still see 50+ pounds gone when the year bandiversary comes 'round.

Today was a particularly tough "eating" day and I don't know why. it just was. But I made it through and tomorrow's another day. The old me would throw in the WW towel and just binge but not anymore. I take it a day at a time, a meal at a time..eat my Protein, drink my Water. Start over. That's all I can do.

Debbie, you have every right to be proud of what you have done. Don't let your sister-in-law diminish what you have done. You are shining brighter, and like the previous poster said, you will be even healthier and lighter while she will have gained that weight back later. Don't be down. You can preen all you want. You have worked really hard to get where you are, and you really deserve a lot of praise for it. You are fighting to get your health back. That is no small feat.

Don't get down on yourself. We all want the weight gone now. We just have to remember that this is for life. This is a marathon, so it isn't how fast you get there, just that you get there. Be proud of your twenty pounds. Each day is a new day to start again. Just don't give up. You are worth it every step in the right direction.:hurray:

You've gotta let it go. Seriously. Do NOT let anyone take these accomplishments away from you. And in truth? There is something to be said for silent strength in your own achievements. Be strong in yourself and your actions.

Their weight loss does not diminish your own. Their achievements do not mean you haven't achieved anything yourself.

Lose it fast, lose it slow - just lose it :hurray:. And feel good in your own skin, please - CLAIM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU know how great you feel - don't let others have that power, don't hand it over to them :hurray:!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
