Disney Marathon January 2009

Recommended Posts

I am not a runner, never have been. But, after having this surgery I am now trying to prove I CAN do what I thought previously was impossible. I'm entered in a 10K run at Disney in October and a half-marathon in Kansas City in October and the Space Coast Marathon (doing the half) in November. The big thing is the Disney Marathon in January. It would be awesome if we had a bunch of lap-banders represented!! I don't care if I'm the last person over the line as long as I FINISH!!! Anybody with me?? D.

That is Sooooo awesome.

You sound like me, except you are a few steps ahead of me.

I started running in June, same reason as you. I entered a couple of 5k races and felt like an olympian when I crossed that finish line!

I am recovering from my TT so will not be back to running for some time.

My goal is to finish a 30k (18mile) run in March. It's called "around the bay". Apparently it is quite difficult due to the number of hills and the fact that we could be running through mud/snow/ice (i'm in Canada).

I will be sending you lots of good thoughts................and if you wanna do the Disney 2010 Marathon, I'll be right there with you.

p.s. Give Mickey a hug for me when you cross that finish line!

I take it TT is Tummy Tuck? AWESOME!! Next year I hope to get my arms done (if I still need it, I think I will). My bat wings are pretty bad. I've been hoping and running and walking fast with all the arm movement would take care of that. So far...nope.

I am going to wish you much success in your 18 mile run. That is AWESOME. My only concern at Disney is that you have to maintain an 18 minute mile or they pull you off the track. I'm going to do the half-marathon at the Space Coast marathon in November and they don't require a segment time, only that you finish in 7 hours. I am going to do a 10K at Disney next month, so that should be good to see how the Disney system operates.

Hey..if you want to do the 2010 with me..AWESOME!! We can make plans, I think doing it with somebody is a great incentitive to keep going. My Granddaughter is going to do the 10K with me and my daughter the half marathon in KC next month (see I have a lot lined up).

Now if my knee will just cooperate!! Take care and I'm sending you awesome wishes for a wonderful life and a quick recovery from the TT. I think I'm too chicken for that...was it a big owie??? D.

Hi ...

Just completed the Disneyland 1/2 marathon ... shaved 15 minutes off of my time from previous 1/2 marathons ... I guess shedding 25lbs. has really helped ... both Disneyland and Disneyworld are great events ... very flat ... fireworks at the start and Disney characters and bands along the way ... I've done two of the Disneyworld runs, and I'm entered in the 2009 run ... you may want to take the "coast to coast" challenge where you get another medal for participating in both marathons (or 1/2 marathons) ... the medals are pretty impressive ...

Best of luck!!!:lovechoc:

That is so awesome! I will remember the coast to coast one, that would be really neat. I tried to sign up for the half marathon, but by May it was already closed out. I wish you so much luck! What time did you finish the 1/2???? D.

Hi ...

I finished the 1/2 in 3:25 ... I'm a walker ... but, I was passing the joggers ... you need to keep a 16 minute pace before they kick you off ... but, you have 3:40 to finish from the time the last participant to cross the start line ... depending on your placement position, you could have an extra 40 minutes to complete the race ...

You can still register for the '09 1/2 marathon at Marathon Tour and Travel and Entry Info ... just download the application and send in a check ... they still have openings ...

Best of luck!

That was great! I knew they had a segment time, I'm hoping I can do it. I went to your site, wish I had known about it before I booked and paid for my room since they only give you guaranteed entry if you book 3 nights..bummer, I would have done that. Well, next time I will know. Thank you SO Much for letting me know, I appreciate it! D.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
