Hurricane Gustav

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I'd just like to say that we in the UK are thinking of the people of the Gulf Coast/Cuba at this testing time. I really hope that the measures taken mean that loss of life is kept to a minimum and that property damage is low.

Hope all turns out well.

Thank you from the U.S.A. My son-in-law helped rebuild in Mississippi after Katrina. I went down there to visit 6 months after the fact and was just overwhelmed with the destuction I seen. He was there 2 months after Katrina hit. He told me what I was seeing was a vast improvement from when he first got there. So my prayers are with the Gulf coast also and where Gustav has already hit.

Thank you! We are bracing ourselves right now. We are just feeling the effects from the wind. They think Baton Rouge will get hit harder with this one more than Andrew, Katrina, Rita, or even Betsy. It is something about where it is making landfall that makes it worse for us than we have had before. Normally it isn't too bad here, because we are far enough inland. Thanks again for the kind thoughts.

Thank you for thinking of us.

I live in the SW corner and it looks like we may miss it if the eye does not follow the coast. We had Rita one month after Katrina and it was devastating.

We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers.

Jazie

I have a daughter & grandchildren that are in BR. Just about every place in Baton Rouge, the electricity is out possible for the next two days. I know that my family appreciates all your prayers and your geniune thoughts. I live in NE Texas and we were told that it's headed for us next (tornados, winds and rain). I know that God will see us through this as well.

Update: Baton Rouge got hit pretty hard. We aren't used to this. We had winds up to 90mph. I have an uprooted tree, 8 ft wooden fence down, and roof damage. I don't know how my house/property in the country is yet.

I echo everyone's thoughts in that I hope everyone is ok. We went through Fay two weeks ago, but she was nothing compared to Gustav.

Crzy,

Sorry to hear about the roof and fence. I hope that you are okay. Did you have to leave home? My daughter just said that some people might have to wait a day or two just for tarps to come in from Alexander to cover their homes.

Hope that Hanna stays away. We heard that there are 2 more out there,

Ike and Josephine. Our prayers are with Fla. and surrounding states as well.

We didn't leave this home and we secured as much as possible the house in the rural area. We are in a brick home here and the roof is damaged, but luckily no holes. We just have a very large tree uprooted in our front yard that is covering the road and sitting on the mailbox. Our entire wood fence is down. This wind was crazy.

Yes, I heard about the high winds. Hopefully they will get out at first light and get the tree at least out the road. We just had EVERY tree in our back yard cut down. We have one in the front and hopefully it will stay rooted in the ground. It was very costly to have them cut but, with Texas weather (only in Tx can you get rain, wind, sun , snow all in one day, LOL) it was a must.

Be safe. I also heard that you all have a curfew.

Yeah, the curfew is from 8pm until 6 am. That is fine with me. With most of city out of power, no one has business being out anyway. It isn't safe.

True, but there will always be those who go against the grain.

Goodnight, and our prayers are with you all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
