Hello from Australia

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

my name is Chris, I am from Melbourne, Australia.

I do not have a lap-band, and I am not all that certain the procedure is all that popular here. Certainly, I know of only one person who has had the op.

Ultimately, I have joined this forum for more information on the subject.

All the Best.

Chris.

Welcome. You've come to the right place! I just had Lap-Band surgery in 8/27/08 and already LOVE it. This site is a tremendous resource. Good luck!

Hi Chris

Check out the Australian Bandsters section: Australia Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum There are quite a few of us here on this site and many many more throughout Australia. The lapband is by far the most common Weight Loss Surgery in Aus - something like 98% of all WLS's are lapband with the remaining 2% divided between gastric bypass, vertical sleeve, etc. Australia has been at the forefront of using this technology for much longer than the US and our surgeons have a much longer history of installing the band.

Hey Chris, I was banded in WA October last year and it's been the best thing I've ever done. Definately check out the thread that Fanny told you about, you'd be surprised how many of us Aussie's have had it done. Cheers Rastis

Well, I don't know how much you need to lose, but it is the best decision I ever made in my life. I am living in Florida, but my home in

in Queensland so it was nice to see your post. I had the surgery here

in Florida, but I originally heard of it in Brisbane many many years ago. The US is a bit behind with lapband surgery. I feel better than I have in so many many years and next month I am doing my first 10K race at Disney. woo hoo! Of course, I will be happy if I can just finish, don't care if I'm the last one over the line!

Hi Chris... best thing ever... banded on 19th August and really loving the freedom that comes from it.... already lost 33 lbs (24 of that on the pre-op Optifast diet) so 9 lbs in four weeks yesterday - seem to be over the hurdle of post-op gismo's... If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired as another bandster said... then this is the only way to go.... Cheers and Good Luck... Trish

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
