Confused about fills~

Recommended Posts

Robyn,

I just had my first fill done under fluoro on June 1. The reason we had to do it under fluoro was because when I went to the office to have my fill he could not find my port. Nope, didnt have to drink anything, it was just an X-ray machine that they placed over my stomach and you could see the port. Once the doctor figured out the ports bull's eye he injected the saline solution and my band tightened. He had me drink a small cup of Water before leaving to make sure it was not too tight. Of course I didnt notice any change til I got back to work and was drinking some Water too fast and it felt like it was stuck going down.

My first fill was done under flouro and they filled my band and then had me drink some barium and as it was going down they began removing saline and stopped when the baruim went though the band. I guess everyone does it differently.:guess

This is how my Dr. does his fills,He actually closes me off completely and then has me drink the baruim until I can not drink any more without swallowing , feels like Iam choking for a second, when I tell him I can no longer drink, he slowly backs off with the saline opening me up and then he sees the baruim flow through the band which gives him an indication on how much saline to put in . I like fluoro, it gives me peace of mind knowing my port is OK, my band is in place, they accessed my port etc..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
