Taking Pills = how do you do it?

Recommended Posts

I am going to have to speak with my Dr. about my high blood pressure pills. They are not huge, but my pharmacist says they cannot be crushed or dissolved. I too hope that I won't be taking them much longer  I got Centrum chewable vitamins. One a day and they were not too expensive at Wal-Mart. I also got chewable Calcium because I need that too.

They all taste so so so yucky!

What about the big old Omega 3 and Glucosamine. Will I ever be able to take those again?

Chris...who managed to get down her antidepressants today...ThankfullY!

if your anti-depressant is time-released...see if it comes regular instead...or ask about switching to another one that is not time-released....maybe?

Oh if you only knew how many anti-depressants I have been on over the years and all the people I have tortured with my mood swings (please insert mass apology here)...There have only been two anti-depressants that have ever worked for me. Prozac and Cymblata. The Prozac finally quit after about 3 years. In between I did a gazillion others until I finally stumbled on Cymbalta. Which ROCKS!

Since I haven't had a fill yet, I got brave enough to try to take 3 of the smaller capsules instead of one of the big ones and one of the small ones and so far they have gone down ok.

take care,

Chris

My surgeon's office tells us to buy children's chewable Vitamins and said they are no different than adult. I hear the Kirkland brand from costco are good.

I take Lexapro also but my nutritionist said they should be small enough that I won't have to crush them.

Got the chewables, but now trying to figure out how to take Glucosamine, Omega-3 (the chewable stuff is GROSS and it still tastes like peppermint salmon and you have to spit out the gummi part...ugh) and any other big old pills. I suppose you have to give them up or find alternatives?:tongue2:

i have not heard back from my doctor yet, so i called the pharmacy today...and it seems that none of the meds i currebtly take can be crushed because they are all time released...so i guess i will be calling my doctor Monday to get all new scripts...

That is such a bummer. Especially when you find things that work. I am able to take my anti-depressants currently because the capsules are small, but I don't know how long I will be able to take them, especially after a fill.

Take care,

Chris

Tyr Elations for the Glucosamine. It is a liquid suppliment that contains Glucosamine, Condroiton. I was taking Flex-a-min and switched to this after my surgery. It seems to be helping the arthritis in my knees. When I wasn't taking anything my knees got much worse very fast. I also use a pill crusher that I got at the pharmacy for the pills that have to be crushed. Much easier than wacking with a knife or spoon.

Good luck!

Already my Blood Pressure is down. It is around 100/60 consistantly so I may have to cut one pill in half as it is. Who would have thought 10 to 15 pounds would make a difference. Good Grief!

Debbie 100/60 blood pressure is more on the low side and if it is that consistently I wouldn't have thought you would'nt need to take meds, i'd go and get that checked. :)

For your first two weeks just try to sip one down at a time...even if it is 15 minutes and several sips in between. If you are taking any supplements, like Omegas or Chondroitins, I'd recommend laying off of them for those weeks since they are usually non-essential or can be skipped like this for short periods.

Once you have healed up a bit, your swelling has gone down, and you are able to "drink" instead of "sip", you shouldn't have a problem swallowing most meds. The Calcium and B Vitamin tablets are Honkers, so you might want to look in to sublingual B and calcium chews anyway. Two childrens chewable Vitamins are about good enough to replace your regular multi until you can find one for an adult that isn't huge. Talk to your pharmacist. There are lots of options for most supplements and over the counter meds.

So here's a new one. I am on Coumadin (blood thinner) which reacts to Vitamin K. Lots of Protein supplements and Calcium supplements have vitamin K. I am worried about what this is going to do to my INR and how my blood thinners are going to react to it. It is kind of a crap shoot keeping my INR therapeutic as it is...ugh...

Okay - good news - after two weeks of crushing I will be re-evaluated for some of my meds, especially the Diabetis Meds. And I get to use flinstone Chewables! After a few months I will be able to take my pills, just one at a time. So at least the yuck crushing is only for a very short time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
