The horror stories are the exception to the rule...they seem to be concrentrated on this sight but they are rare. My NP in my surgeon's office told me that the odds are post op (once I've healed and learned the new way of eating etc) I will most likely be able to eat everything I ever did but in smaller portions. I can tell you I had my banding on 8/29 (after a failed attempt on 8/11 ... and that is rare too!) and I feel fine. A little sore, but some of my surgical sites are larger than they would've been because of the 2nd surgery. All in all I'm drinking Water and feeling fine. So remember to take the bad stuff, not with a grain of salt, but just as the rare exception it is. Most bandsters feel great and do wonders with the band!

Hi Laura, I am also from Oklahoma, (northeast) I will be having surgery in OKC due to how my insurance pays. I have to agree, the horror stories are the exception. I only know this from friends who have the band, as I have just received insurance approval and don't have a date yet. Best wishes and enjoy the journey!

Hi Tootie!!! I am also from Oklahoma. I live in Southeast OK as well. I went to Texarkana to have my surgery done by Dr. Keilin. She is awesome! I am happy for you and your decision to change your life! I am one of the people who has had some bad luck, but it was well worth it and I am over all of that (knock on wood). Let me know how it goes. By the way, what town are you from? I am from Idabel...Talk to you soon!

Kristi

Hi,

I too am from Oklahoma. I'm just north of Tulsa in Claremore. My surgery is scheduled for next Monday, Sept. 8th. Wooo Hooo!

I have had a long wait, over a year! Aetna denied my first attempt stating I had not been fat long enough. They required a 6 month program and then I was approved a year later and a surgery date set pretty fast.

My surgeon is Dr. Gorospe in Owasso. I've had 2 friends go through him and had wonderful experiences.

Best of luck in your wait, it will soon be over!

Jenelle

Howdy from Owasso--

I'm doing my jump through hoops myself. Just got back this a.m. from my first Cardiac appt. I am going through Dr. Stephen Katsis at Tulsa Surgical Associates. I had my sleep study done almost 2 weeks ago. Sad to say, I had to go on CPAP just after that appt. Hopefully, I'll be able to get rid of that darn machine once the weight falls off. Another week and I'll have my 2nd Cardiac appt and my 2 1/2 hour psych eval. Then just one more appt...the Pulmonology one on the 1st of October. Hope to get all of this finished in time to have my lap surgery by the end of the year. I know they are booked out a good ways. Oh...by the way, I'm Beka. I'm a Mother of 2, one with special needs and one typical hissyfit 3 1/2 year old. Married almost 16 years to my high school sweetheart.

I had to go and sleep overnight in South Tulsa on 91st street. I had to be there at 8:30pm and was released by 5:30am. No sleeping pills unless you are already on them. They hook you up to all this crap and you look something from outer space! There are electrodes attached to just about everywhere from head to your shins. Then, you either just try to fall asleep or read or watch TV as you would normall do until you fall asleep. Then then monitor you from another room all night. At around 1 something in the morning, I was already having so many apnic episodes that they hooked me up to CPAP then. I slept perfectly from then on out until the woke me up a little after 5am. The place I went to was Sleep Solutions and this was where all of Tulsa Surgical Associate patients go to. (Dr. Katsis/Dr. Fisher & their partners) HTH...Beka

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
