Hello from Nebraska

Hi, Am new to all this. :confused:Feel excited, nervous, and scared. Not about the surgery, but the permanent life changes. Have Questions about eating, post band and after recovery.Think I understand the issues during recovery and post fills - or am I being naive? :) Have to lose as my health is deteriorating . Have failed too many times to count and gained all back and more. Now need to lose 150 +#, or else. Have the OK from the family doctor, surgeon, the psychologist, waiting to hear from the Pulmonologist before submitting to the Ins Co.- Looks like I'll be Dealing with respiratory problems and drug interactions, until mid Oct. Just want the surgery to start!!!

Hi Sue, I am new to this too, and I live in Lincoln, NE! It is nice to find someone from Lincoln just starting too. I have my consultation September 11, so I am anxiously awaiting that. I am sort of in the same situation as you with the amount of weight to lose, and so many failures. I have to do this for my health also. Who is your doctor? How has the process been for you (as I will probably be doing the same thing as you). After reading posts on this website I feel a little more comfortable about doing it, but there is still a part of me that wonders if I am doing the right thing. My lifestyle will be changing dramatically if I have the surgery, which is what I need. Good luck with everything and let me know how you are doing.

Hi ladies and welcome! I had my band placed 8/29 and faced issues similar to yours...my weight is very high and I have a good deal to lose but more invasive by pass just wasn't for me. I know I have to change my life, but I needed to anyway. I frankly was pretty miserable at 5'5" and 405 pounds. If I have to chew my food 20 times and eat less, that's a fair price to pay for health! That's my thinking anyway. My doc's office reminds me that most patients can eat any all and everything they ever did, just less, if they give it time and let themselves heal and adapt. I know I'll probably never have soft drinks or beer again, but found I could give them up for a life that is more active and healthy. It's a tough decision, but for me the alternative was more scary!

Sorry, Either you will get this twice or I accidentally deleted the 1st. I had a consult with Dr. Hung. I saw him in March and held off until i could save enough for the insurance co-pay. Then Life happens and i decided Life is too short to wait any more. Saw him again in late July and started this process in earnest.

You're right~life is to short. That is why I'm checking into this also. I have been heavy 90% of my life, and I'm just tired of it! Dr. Hung is who I am supposed to see next week, and I'm excited to see what he has to say. I don't want to have to wait 6 months to do the diet thing, but I think my insurance is going to make me do that. I just want to do this and be on my way to a new me. :tt2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
