the best me 6 Posted June 13, 2005 Lie like a dog. Just stay on the staight and narrow from now till surgery day. You should be fine. No sneaking, no binging, no desperate last meal, no need! You will eat again, and enjoy it, and be full! Stay the course, follow your liquid diet, it's just a few more days and you will benefit lots from it. You surgery will go more smoothly, you will recover well, AND you will lose weight. No more cheating, you little cheater! See, and now you become a little liar, too? See how this works? Stop this madness! Be good, get your surgery. Let us know how it goes! ((((hugs))))
katerzz 4 Posted June 13, 2005 I cheated also.. but after working in a surgery department and seeing many surgeries canceled I highly recommend you stick with it the last few days just to be safe!
Jonathan 5 Posted June 13, 2005 no desperate last meal, no need! You will eat again, and enjoy it, and be full! Superb advice, and the biggest surprise of the whole thing for me. You WILL eat again, as much as you want ("as much as you want" will mean something new to you), and you will love it, and when you're done, you won't hate yourself or feel so full you can't move. It gets better, not worse, in every aspect. Peace, Jonathan
KRZYGIRLNSTL 0 Posted June 14, 2005 I cheated 3 times before my surgery with double cheese burgers.....i told my Dr, he says it is ok but it isnt recommended. I also told everyone on this site and they told me id be fine...AND I WAS!!!

bernadette 0 Posted July 20, 2005 Ok..I may be a stick in the mud here but I think that you should do as the doctor says. Its great discipline for us all. My doctor makes all of his patients go to informational seminar. During this seminar he clearly states that if you cheat while on this pre-op diet he will know by the color and size of your liver. If the liver is not what it should be he will close you up and cancel the surgery! Is he just B.S.ing us? Maybe, but I dont want to find out the hard way! I think that all the people that are saying that its ok because they got away with it are defeating the whole purpose of this site. We are here to encourage everyone to do the right thing and cheer them on. Maybe some of us are not aware of this, but the whole purpose of this liquid diet is to shrink our livers so that during the surgery there is less chance of the liver being nicked while they are in there. To me ...this is not a risk I want to take! So I will starve and be miserable if it means one less complication for me. I hope anyone else having this surgery takes my advice and just do as you are told. You wont be sorry!
the best me 6 Posted July 20, 2005 I think that all the people that are saying that its ok because they got away with it are defeating the whole purpose of this site. We are here to encourage everyone to do the right thing and cheer them on. I agree, You should always follow your doctor's advice regarding your pre-op diet. And you should NOT cheat. But for Jen, the deed was done. If she had posted and said "Help! I'm on my liquid pre-op and I'm so hungry I want to cheat!!!" I would have given very different advice. Knowing she had already cheated, and knowing others had slid by despite it, however undeservingly, well, I stand behind my post. You are RIGHT! though. Noone should cheat at all!!! Hey, normally, I"M the stick in the mud!! Good job, Bernadette!
KarenB 0 Posted July 20, 2005 Is he just B.S.ing us? I think he is. sounds like a scare tactic. We all know it's better to stick to the liquid diet, but come on, a lot of us cheat & I've never heard of anyone's banding being canceled. They lift the liver out of the way to place the band, and the less fatty it is the better. The liquid diet helps lessen the fat. Some people don't even get a liquid diet! This is just my opinion. Everyone should ask their doctor. (I only cheated once) & the man I was banded with didn't even do liquids.< /p>
gordonfamily3 0 Posted July 20, 2005 I have a problem with our 2 week liquid diet...I talked to the dieticain and she said as long as I get my protien and keep calories @ 700 - 800 I would be fine. That is what I did...they reason for the liquid diet is to shrink the liver. It is earier if it's smaller for the surgeon to do the surgery. I know everyone I have asked had had a couple of light meals. Stay focused and know it's almost over.... Good Luck!!!
GeezerSue 7 Posted July 21, 2005 Two things: 1--most of the very most experienced doctors have the least restrictive pre-op diets; AND, 2--I don't recommend using the term "to cheat" regarding any of this journey. I think it shows that we are in a "game" mind-set and that that getting away with "cheating" might be a good thing, and I really think that those who use that language often are just not ready for the changes that are needed to succeed. IMHO.
wannabskinny2 0 Posted July 21, 2005 I wasn't on a pre-op diet. My doctor told me not to eat anything after midnight before my surgery. I was supposed to be on a 2 wk liquid after surgery but that 6th day I was starving so had some mashed potatoes. Boy, were they good!
Chunk 0 Posted July 24, 2005 I didn't cheat! However, on the second day of my pre-op diet the surgeon called and asked for me to come in the next day. So when the dust settled, I actually only went 2 days on a liquid diet. I asked the surgeon if things would be still be okay. He assured me things would be fine and said that it was still very unlikely that he would have to revert to an open operation. I went through surgery and was pleased when I awoke to see that I did indeed get it done laproscopically. My advice is that you be honest with your surgeon. The fasting process helps get fat off you liver and allows him/her to access your stomach more easily. If you are consuming large amounts of calories, this may not happen. The consequence is that your operation may have to be open. This would mean that you will have five keyhole scars, 1 port scar (1-2 inches), and a lond scar from your navel to zyphoid process. Call your doctor and see if you can get some appetite suppresants. This might help you. See you on the other side.
vinesqueen 2 Posted July 24, 2005 No "Cheating." This is because the Band is NOT a diet. I think this is one of the biggest hurdles for new bandsters who are serial dieters. The Band isn't a diet, so there is no cheating. My surgeon recommended a liquid diet, but I gained 5 or 10 pounds before the surgery due to steroids. Did he scold me or make me feel like a failure? hell no. He patted my arm, and said let's get you done. No worries.
