Hey everyone. I'm back from Arizona. The weather there was beautiful, but it's nice to be home!

Froggi-Congrats on the approval!!!

WVUFAN-Sorry I missed Zumba. I didn't get back until midnight Sunday night and I was still on West Coast time yesterday. I was exhausted last night! I ended up doing an aerobic tape and went to bed. I will be there next week! It was so much fun!!

So...I still don't have my approval letter in hand. I absolutely hate waiting for important things in the mail. It seems it's going to take longer for me to get the paper in my hand than it did to get approved. It's annoying and ridiculous. I was told once I get the paper though and I call and give the approval codes to Jeannie so I can get my appts made. Lindsey is all filled up this week and Kaplan is out of town so I guess they will be next week. Hopefully I will get my dang letter tomorrow in the mail (I BETTER) I want to know I have appts...plus I am getting so frustrated knowing my surgery will be in November yet I don't have a date when November is less than 2 weeks away! I hope I can get my date next week (crosses fingers & toes) My mom said if I don't get my letter tomorrow that she wants me to call the insurance again and see if they can fax a copy or something to the doc's office so I can get this started. Waiting like this is so annoying and stressful when you only have so many specific days and times you can do things. My mom will be off tomorrow and thursday...can't make appts for then cause none are available...then her next day off is Friday the 31st...HAVE to make appts for then. And the only free time my mom has off in November to help me with my surgery will be a couple days before November 10th and after November 10th. So my surgery needs to be then!!! Jeannie and Lindsey don't think I will have a problem getting that day if I get my paperwork this week so I am hoping and praying that everything goes okay. I know this is a long post but damnit I am stressing and worrying about every little thing right now. I need to be starting my preop diet next week sometime! Plus I still need an EGD. Ugh. I hate stress.

I have learned not to weigh myself daily. There are too many differences and it depends on the time of day you weigh yourself also. I weigh myself about once a week now and at the same time of day. There are days where I dont pee as much as usual and I know have drank a lot of Water which then makes me gain weight on certain days, then the next day I pee like crazy and I would be down a couple pounds. Try not to dwell on that 1 pound. Think to yourself, what have I done that would have caused this pound gain, what havent I done? Think about the Fluid input and output, are they equal? Try not to stress it too much. I only lost 10 pounds in my 6 month preop diet.

I am very proud to say though, had a weigh in yesterday and a fill and I am down 32 pounds!! FINALLY.. Sorry, had to brag. I stayed at only 20 pounds down for the longest time, I was so excited to see that loss.

I'm so happy you broke though that stand still, with all the diests in my past, stonewalling usually did me in. I'm glad though that my attitude is so differant now. Its nice to finally REALLY believe something will work with me in my weight loss journey. YAY girl you go:thumbup:

Elizabeth, I think we know each other! My Gma's Bonnie Harlow, and I grew up down the road from your Grandparents. I also worked with your Aunt Jeanie. Do I have the right Elizabeth??

You're right about not stressing about the weight. I saw Lindsay today and lost 4 more pounds. I think I'm at a 10 pound loss so far, and they want me to lose 7-10 more before surgery in January. Lindsay also told me that the people who exercise lose weight either twice as fast or they lose twice as much. So yaaa all of you guys doing Zumba and Line Dancing. As soon as I can breathe again (darn valley air and changing seasons) I'll be joining you...as long as you promise not to point and laugh :)

Jennifer- Congrats on the loss! You will like the Zumba class. I felt absolutely no intimidation there. The women were great and it was super fun. Hope to see you there!

I can't make line dancing. 6:30 is really pushing it for me since I don't get home from work until 6 or after. Tonight I need to go to a visitation at the funeral home and tomorrow night I have cub scout meeting at 7 to go to. But, if everything works out, I'll see you guys on Monday!

Just an update...I went for a fill yesterday. There's supposed to be 5cc in there, they only got 3.5 when Jeannie checked it. Dr. Kaplan said I could have a leak around the port...? Told me to call in 2 weeks if no restriction. But, I think that it was all in there and just not coming out? Jeannie put in 1.5cc and I have so much more restriction! I'm still getting hungry in between Breakfast and lunch, but I have definite restriction when I eat with that 'lump in your throat' feeling. I even had a hard time getting eggs down last night. This is a good thing, though. I'm not feeling hungry, other than between breakfast and lunch, and my portion sizes are reduced. I'm getting in 3 meals with soft Protein right now since I'm just 2 days out from the fill. So, we'll see how this goes with harder food later in the week. I had gone back up to 221 and I am 215 now since last week. So, it's working! :)

Do you guys think there will ever be a time where we're not 100% focused on food? Maybe when we hit our goal weight?

Honestly, I think it will be an issue the rest of my life. Once I hit goal, I know and anticipate that I will be focussed on never letting myself get back to where I was before losing weight. I will always have to focus on making smart food choices and keeping the weight off. I was not blessed with a raging metabolism. I know that once the weight is off, I can not go back to eating whatever I want. I wish it would become second nature, but I know all too well what a slippery slope it is for me when it comes to food. I think it's best for me to just keep it a daily priority to make smarter food choices. Am I going to slip up along the way? Yes, that's life. But I must keep myself focussed to recover from the slip-ups, which to me means a lifelong commitment. Honestly, once you have your surgery and get into this, it's not as hard as I anticipated. Yes, I still enjoy high calorie foods but the key is, once in a while, not daily!!! You can still enjoy the food side of life with the band, you just become so much more accountable to not only your body but to your brain too for making the right choices. :)

Elizabeth...I don't know if you know this, but when they were kids, my mom dated your dad.

Yeah, I took over for Jeanne as Office Manager here when she moved. She lost a ton of weight before she left. I can't believe she rides her bike on those long trips! Good for her!

All you Kaplan Bandster's, I'm sure Jeannie asked us all the same questions. I'm curious to know what your answers were to:

Why do you want to lose weight?

Besides the standard "I want to feel better, live longer, keep up with my kids", I want to take ballroom dancing lessons with my husband, ride horses, and fit into something sexy (can we say that word on here? LOL) from Victoria's Secret.

I want to live past 35 years old. I started this when I was 25. I have severe asthma, high blood pressure, high heart rate, bad knees and a bad back. I dont see myself living 10 more years if I dont do anything.. Well, that is when I started the 6 month diet. I am now 3 months post op and proud to say I am already off my blood pressure pills.< /p>

Once again....im not getting any emails letting me know there has been postings. :cool2:

I had to catch up! lol

Jennifer....No pointing and laughing at either Zumba or Linedancing. We are there just to have a good time. Everyone is SUPER nice and the teacher (Debbie) teaches both Zumba & Linedancing. :w00t: Everyone there is really great...they've become my second family.

Update:

I only lost 1lb at my weigh in with Lindsey.....BUT I put a pair of pants on today that were tight and I didnt wear them 2 wks ago...and they are loose! SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today though...on my 1200 calorie diet...I kind of screwed up and ate something before checking the calories.......and now I have 35 calories left for dinner. The only saving grace I have there.....I will be going to linedance tonight and Lindsey told me to eat some of the calories I work off there so my body doesnt go into storage. So...Thank Heavens I have that...otherwise...I would be eating breakfast at 12:01am.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
