Hi everyone! This is my first time posting on here and I just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Kesha and I live in California. My surgery date is scheduled for Sept 16 and I couldnt be more excited! I go in on Sept 4 for my one on one with the doctor, etc. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me when I meet with him? Any specific questions that I should ask him? Also, I have been reading about the dr's placing lots of you (if not all! =) on a liquid diet some time before your surgerys. Any info on that would be great as well. One more question... can some one please explain to me how fills work? How often, how do you know if you need one, etc? Im about 4 hours from surgeon (this is the hospital that my insurance approved) so I have not even met him yet, so I kind of feel like Im not quite as "knowledgable" about some things as the rest of you. Again, any info or tips would be SOOOO appreciated! thanks, and good luck and congrats to you all!:thumbup:

Sorry your surgeon is so far away. Mine does fills at 6 weeks post op and I don't know beyond that yet...and liquid diets...all surgeons are different. All I can say is do what your surgeon tells YOU to do....your surgeon is best equipped to know his style and how patients respond. i was on a preop liquid diet for 3 weeks (because of my size) and my liver was still too fatty (I had modified the surgeon's diet and still lost 15...but not the right way) so I had to follow the preop diet another 2 1/2 weeks. post op I am on Clear liquids for a week, Clear Liquids and Protein drink week 2, then week 3-4 I get to eat Mushies (things like eggs, maltomeal, milk, yogurt, etc...)

your surgeon will have his own timeline for these things!

Congratulations on getting approved, by the way! I have only had my band 1 day but I'm glad I've done this.

Hi Kesha. My name is Becky. My surgery is scheduled for September 12th and I feel like you do. I flew down to Houston (750 miles) on August 13th for my initial consultation, but haven't met the doctor doing my procedure yet. I will go back to Houston on Tuesday Sept. 9, have my pre-op meeting with the doctor on Wed. and then my surgery will be on Friday. I just keep reading information on this site and I have an ongoing list of questions to ask him when I get there. (many have been answered here, but some are questions that he needs to answer for me). Today was day 11 of my 3 week pre-op diet. I have 2 Atkins Advantage shakes a day and then 6 to 8 oz. of Protein, unlimited green vegetables and 1 cup of fruit for dinner. It hasn't been bad. All doctors are different and the pre-op diets are all different too. Some people have no pre-op diet, some have ALL liquids..... just depends on what your doctor tells you. I don't have my band yet so I don't feel like I should answer your question about fills. Since I am so far from my doctor and I already have 5 post op check ups that I think I have to fly down to Houston for, I'm hoping that I can get my fills somewhere closer to home... we'll see. I'm getting a lot of frequent flyer miles and when this is all over I am going to treat myself to a vacation!! Good luck to you!!! I'll be looking for progress reports and hope all goes well for you!!

p.s. - I may be old... ok I am old, but that turquoise writing is very hard to read :)

Ask if he uses staples or glue/steri strips. My scars from the staples are my biggest disappointment. My surgeon said they will fade, but I am really starting to wonder. I wish I had asked this before hand.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
