Getting hotter in here?

Recommended Posts

I'm 52, and have been getting hotter flashes, more frequently. Is it true that as you lose weight that the estrogen stored in your adipose tissue is released - making menopause symptoms worsen?

At times, I have trouble with concentration, being hot, being cold, being over emotional, and sometimes so annoyed I can hardly stand myself!

Tell me if this is normal, or if I need to call the doctor and/or shrink...

Hey, it sounds normal to me - although I will add, being so annoyed with others that I can't stand them!:)

Yup, sounds like normal menopause symptoms. I was having such bad hot flashes that I thought I'd have to go home ill. Hormone replacement therapy did the trick.

Yep...sounds just like me too. I finally got sick of it all, and my moods were really out of control so I went to my GYN and now have a patch I wear around my belly button. OMG!!!!!!! Change was within 48 hours!!!! NO more hot flashes and I am pretty much a normal person now! WHEW!!!! Thank God for hormones!

I'm 54 and have been having hot flashes for ten yrs. I had a hysterectomy 2 yrs ago and OMG The sweat would pour off of me like a waterfall. This would happen constantly, to the point of embarassment. I had my lapband surgery 8 days ago and have had a 90% decrease in the hot flashes and sweats. Even if I don't lose all the weight I want to, the decrease in hot flashes was worth the surgery.

I think its normal. I'm not menopausal yet but I had about 9 months of horrendous menstrual symptoms, awful PMT, horrid period pain, developed endometriosis, none of which I'd ever suffered from before. It all sort of gradually died down again and my periods are normal now.

Now what I understand is that all the estrogen stored in the adipose tissue when you are obeses make menopause much worse. When we lose weight there will be a temporary adjustment in your level but when it levels as you loose weight I think it will be easier.

Yes, mee too, LOL, I had the lapband 5 months ago and my OBGYN told me to get off the hormone patch because I am too old, 53 and my dose was too high. I got off cold turkey, for two months I was in a blur of memory bleeps, hot flashes like crazy, couldn't stop them. So I went back on hormone patch at the minimum dose and felt relief within 24 hours. Get off hormoes slowly. funnyface
