Oh slim, one suggestion for the head hunger, Do something. If you're truely hungry it won't go away and half an hour later if you're still hungry it's because you're truely hungry- so they say. The thing that is working for me, is I drink when I get that head hunger. It also helps.

I'm getting my hunger back as well.

I can tell when I get home from work that I am ready to eat.

One thing I've been doing is- having a carnation instant Breakfast drink late evening. That seems to help. (I make myself last that long)

I tried the carnation instant breakfast this afternoon. It helped for a little while. I drank it for a mid afternoon snack because I just felt so empty. It only lasted about an hour. I made myself wait to have more Soup. I made an appointment with a counselor that deals only with food issues. I can only hope that she offers some other tools to add to the arsenal.

Hey everyone!

I was banded sept 25th!! I'm down 10 lbs including wk pre op :-)

pains not so bad. I have MAJOR GAS (from below), diarea & some gas pressure in chest. That's about it. I find myself already wanting food & getting hungry. The "head hunger" is here too.

Hey, we had the same surgery date. It makes me feel better to know that other people feel the same way that I do. I am so glad that I stumbled onto this forum.:cool2:

I've done pretty good so far. I've not really had any pain (not even from gas). I'm dealing with head hunger, and my total lack of interest in my liquid diet. How about you?

Tonight was the most difficult time since surgery on the 24th!! My family, not their fault, got pizza! I have started to be super hungry. I do not believe that it is head hunger, because I have loud growls and since I am not one bit interested in the liquids I must be starving. I know this is not good. I hope to start a new food phase on Wed!! Hang in there guys! Tamara

I will, if you will. I did ok with the liquid diet at first, but today I wanted food. I cooked dinner for my family and it smelled so good. During the liquid diet, I wanted food but none of it appealed to me. Today it was a stuggle to keep that food out of my mouth. I want to chew and swallow a real piece of meat. Not a Protein Drink. grrrr

GOOD LUCK with your fill on the first. I'll see my surgeon that day too, but not for a fill. It's my first follow up with him since my surgery. So I'll be thinking of you. And lucky me, I get to stay there all day, as my twins have check ups that day as well, two hours later. I'll bring my Protein Shake (will be there thru lunch) and get the boys some mc d's. No problem not eating that junk.

Teri

Why would you want to feed your precious children junk like that either? They deserve better than junk surely!

Sorry Terrilyn Just re-read my previous post and thought it was a bit harsh. Didn't mean it to come across as such but its the kind of thinking (that junk is OK for kids) that got some of us FAT in the first place. I think its important as a parent and teacher of our kids to set good examples in everything!

I totally understand what your saying. In her defense she just had surgery & maybe she's not up to doing much yet. Mc'd's is ok once in awhile. I'm sure she doesn't give it to her kids on a regular basis. :dita: I had my surgery the same day as her & I have three little ones all under 6yrs old. As, you can imagine it's not easy.

Please understand I am not trying to be fresh in anyway. I'm just seeing her side too. :-)

I think I've done well w/ pain too. I don't have gas pain just been passing a lot . My belly... by where my port is {I think} is where I am starting to hurt now. Only if I bend over or get up. I am really getting hungry & having hunger pains now. Dealing w/ head hunger too. My head actually feels dizzy & cloudy today. odd, I don't know why it's just happening now.????

I'm down 12 lbs today!!!!:lol::thumbup::thumbup: including my wk pre op diet.

That's enough to keep me going!! I'm so glad I did this. I can't believe I'm actually gonna be thin again!!!!!!! :crying:

Hang in there everyone! We'll do this together!!!! :cursing:

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
