I read the article too....my stomach was in knots until I got to the end. I think that as long as you do the research everything usually works out ok...just like in the US. It was weird to read about a lap band from Mexico though. Hopefully no one in my family reads it or they'll be freaking out.

I sent a major letter to the editor as soon as I read the article on Friday. I would love it if they printed it. I told them that they should have contacted some happy Mexican bandsters & told them I'd be happy to be interviewed. I also told them that no doctor in the US ever has given me his cell phone #, and many other good things about my experience. Also, I told them that every time I go there, I see the same doctor. Part of the article intimated that you don't even see the same doc when you go back. Let's see what happens with my letter.

I bought the magazine and read the aritcle tonight

and let me tell you I was bothered after reading it so I went straight to their web site and emailed the Editor asking why he did not interview any people who had great experiences in Mexico. I told him I thought it was unfair to not get both opinions on this. I rambled on about many things, my experience from my Lap Band surgery, my experience from my recent surgery where the u.s. doctors wouldnt operate on me but the Mx doctor would and saved my life...I know there are many who did not have a good experience in Mexico .but for every bad experience there is a good experience and the article should of been fair and balanced is all that I am saying. I wonder if I will get a reply. If I do, I will be sure to post it here, you can count on that! :D

Me too. They did acknowledge electronically that they received my letter, but that's about it.

Hello, I'm new at all this. I just wanted to know what was said about the doctors in Mexico who peforms the lap band. The reason why is that I am schedule to go to Mexico on July 11, 2005 to get my band. I would truely appreciated if some one could fill me in about what was said in People Mag. By the way I have Dr. Roberto Rumbaut.

Dr. Rumbaut enjoys an excellent reputation. The article was mainly about poor plastic surgery outcomes & the one lap-band procedure they mentioned was not a good one. Someone please write who the doc was, my brain is fried tonight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
