I haven't even seen a lap-band doctor yet; my regular doctor just referred me two days ago. I'm just learning how all this stuff works. I'm hoping the surgery will include fixing a "very large" hiatal hernia that was diagnosed late last year. I don't know much about it, just know that it's time to have it all fixed. I have high blood pressure for the first time in my life and am anxious and ready to get this going.

Looking forward to watching and waiting...and participating!

Thanks a bunch!

i didn't know i had a herna going into surgery and my dr fixed it for me while he was doing my band, you'll hear that from a lot of people on here, so i wouldn't think it would be a problem

Thanks - I know that small hernias are easily repaired; I heard that mine was very large. Hoping that won't make a difference. From your profile it looks like your banding was yesterday - was it? If so, how did it go?

Welcome Grateful Heart. Sounds like we're in similar boats; my internist in July told me to act NOW or I'd be a full blown diabetic by Christmas. I got my band today and I think I am going to love it!

I have a large ventral hernia my doc didn't fix because he said it would just reoccur until I lost weight....but I think they do fix most hiatal hernias! You'll learn more as you meet your surgeon etc.

It went very well, it's day 3 and i now need nearly no pain meds it's all managable except i'm now starting to cough up from the sleep medicine during surgery, which is no biggie it just hurts a bit, and i can't cough as big as i would like to

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
