hersheymalone 0 Posted August 30, 2008 I was denied this week by UHC. My BMI is 38.7. I have pitting endema, weak bladder..... My insurance said I have to have more comorbidities. Any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks!
hersheymalone 0 Posted August 30, 2008 I never get sick so I really don't have a primary doctor. Just switched ob/gyn so thats a no good thing too... But I have all my records for the last 10 years showing that I have been over the 200lb mark..... Just at a loss and discouraged!
lapbandliz 0 Posted August 30, 2008 I'm sorry you are having such a hard time! I know how frustrating the whole insurance thing is... I had to "wrestle" my way into getting my insurance to pay.... First off, Get in with a PCP, preferably one that is Lapband "friendly" tell them the situation and your goals. At this point I would just start from scratch. I'm sure your insurance company has the standard dieting for six months thing... Just start it. Insurance companies will try anything to avoid paying for your surgery. It is really ridiculus! Call and talk to the insurance company's case manager/nurse and ask for ALL the specifics on what you will need to have the authorization coverage. Then do everything they ask. Mark each one off, follow it to a "T". The insurace companies are taking the chance that you will get so overwhelmed with all they require that you will give up, BUT Don't!! Just keep going! I started my "journey" last October and I am approved now with my insurance and will be having sugery next week. Just hang in there and be patient! It is so hard to do, when you know this is what you need and want. Good Luck and DON't GIVE UP!!
