Super hungry- All the time!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I know it's time for me to get a fill. I've been waiting over a month for my appointment on Sept 11th and I just can't deal with this anymore! Every meal I have I get hungry about 1.5 hours later. It's really annoying and I am so sick of food (I never thought I'd say that! Haha.) I just don't know what to do. I've tried eating all Protein to stay full, tried eating more carbs, tried drinking a lot. The feeling of being hungry so much stresses me out. I usually eat 400-600 calories a day and I'm seriously up around 1000 a day. I've reduced my exercise to 2-3 times a week so I don't eat as much, but either way I lose. I've already gained 4 lbs in 3 weeks. Anyway, enough complaining! My question is- have any of you been here, and if so what have you done, avoided and had for food? I have two weeks left.

Thank you for your time!

<3 Royce

I had may first fill 8/19 (3 ccs in an 8 cc band) and it did nothing for me. I have another fill scheduled for 9/2 and am hoping it will help. I am starving and have been for the past couple of days. I am also exercising every day so I know that has increased my metabolism which naturally makes me more hungry. Exercising less is NOT the answer. Do the best you can to avoid unhealthy food and try to eat every 3 hours so that you don't get too hungry which leads to binge eating/bad food choices.

I've been doing my best to push til at least 2-2.5 hours but it takes all out of me! I get a headache and I'm really shakey. I do try to stretch the time as much as possible but exactly like you said- I don't want to get to that point where I'll shove anything and everything down my throat. I think I just have to suck it up! Thank you for replying :]

I don't know how much you weigh now but I honestly think 600 cal isn't really enough food to live on. Sounds like you're young and pretty active...you should get at least 1000 cal! Did you get to meet with a nutritionist as part of your surgery package? That's what they told us....since I'm heavier I'm supposed to get even more.

If you don't get ENOUGH food you won't lose as well either. Your body needs fuel to burn....if you keep it too hungry it will start freaking out and start holding on to every little morsel. It's no wonder you're hungry!

Just try to stay to 1000-1200 until you go to your Doc. Don't feel guilty! See what they tell you, ok? until then be nice to yourself.

I am waiting for my first fill in Sept. I am getting a big hungrier and now eat or drink something every 2-3 hours till bedtime. I space out my Protein Drinks and my small meals. I have a small fat and sugar free yogurt before bed that makes me able to go to sleep. It's only 60 calories. I find doing that works. Good luck.

I had my first fill a couple of weeks ago. I do get hungry an hour or so before each meal. I have Snacks at the office to help me through until I eat and this system works great for me. Small fruit cups, Weight Watchers yogurt, or a Protein shake works well for me between meals. That way I'm not famished when I eat my meal so I don't eat too much too fast. Also, in the evening about 2-3 hrs before bedtime, I have my last shake. In this GNC shake I add some frozen strawberries, ice, some Splenda, and my powdered meds to the blender. This has totally stopped any late evening snacking which was my problem before banding. So far this system is working for me and I'm happy with the progress of my weight loss.

I totally agree with Restless, 600 calories is definitely too low. There are several websites with calculators to help determine how many calories you need to eat to maintain or lose weight. Just googling, I found this one right off Calorie Control Council | Healthy Weight Calculator

You won't do yourself any favors if you deprive yourself. This is a lifelong journey you're on. Just like a marathon, you don't want to go too fast early in the race or you won't have enough steam to finish. Take the weight off slowly and enjoy the journey.

God Bless!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
