The seminar can be really helpful. I actually went to 3 different ones (for a different Dr. each). Each time people asked different questions, so it was extremely helpful!

I think I couldn't have trusted my surgeon etc without the seminar. He covered various types of Gastric surgery, told us which ones he does and doesn't do (and why)...was well spoken, personable, and very knowledgable. I learned a lot from the seminar as well. And lastly, my DH (he's a nurse and has seen some real train wrecks from GBS gone bad) who was dubious, had his questions answered and his fears resolved. I think they are great! And if the one you go to doesn't educate you etc...then that's informative too...you may want a different surgeon!

Welcome and good luck!

I have been waiting almost 3 months for my seminar date to arrive, finally it's this Thursday~I wish I could just skip it all together however, since I have had my mind made up 100% for sometime already. It's a requirement with the Drs office however. I am just so anxious to get things in motion, esp that damn scale LOL!

I didn't want to waste time with the seminar either but my doc required it too. AND it was actually informative. My husband went with me and he learned a lot that he didn't know, it helped get him on board with the whole thing (He's a nurse and saw some bad stuff with GBS) So welcome, and hope your seminar is useful!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
