4 fills and gaining!

Recommended Posts

I feel like such a failure. I'm at 6 cc's in a 10 cc band and have gained approx 10 lbs in the past 2-3 months. Was supposed to get a fill 2 weeks ago, but after learning of the weight gain my doctor has made me keep a food journal for the next month to track of exactly what I'm putting in my mouth. I'm supposed to be eating 1200 to 1250 calories per day. I'm eating healthy, but too much still. Has anyone else gone through this aggravation? I'm mad at myself more because I'm self-pay so it feels like money going down the drain - hard earned money! I just want to get back on track and lose this stupid weight.

I don't know about anyone else but if I didn't have a problem with eating too much I wouldn't be here. I understand where you're coming from. Guilt doesn't do any good, though....just journal the food like your doc wants and take it from there!

I plan to (re) join WW once I'm healed to help me stay on track. That weekly weigh in, plus the people in the meeting, help keep me honest.

Maybe some organized weight loss program would help you too?

Ideally we'd get the band, eat less without thinking about it, get to a healthy weight and live happily ever after. And it may actually work that way for some...but a lot of us still have to struggle.

Hang in there!

I would be having a heart to heart wil your doctor!! If you are gaining weight because you are eating too much, you need a fill. In fact, weight gain is one of the indicators that you need a fill. Don't forget, you are a consumer that PAID for him to assist you in losing weight. You did not pay him to chastise you for eating too much. I think journaling what you eat is a great idea and you should do it so you are more aware of what you are putting in your mouth. Don't be afraid of disagreeing with your doc and questioning his decisions. ( I am married to one and disagree with him on a regular basis : ) ) If you are not pbing regularly, push for the fill. I felt no restriction at 6 cc, I now have 9 cc in a 10 cc band and really could use more!! Good luck!

Thanks! It has been an eye opener keeping a journal these past two weeks. Paying lots more attention to the information on the side of the box. Joined a gym about 2 months ago so I definitely get enough excercise - walk 30 minutes 4 days a week and weight-lift 4 days a week too. Haven't pb'd yet, but some food gets stuck. I definitely need a fill (or two or three). The way it works with my doctor is I pre-paid for the plan so all fills are covered within the first year, don't know what it is after the year is up. Going back in about 2 weeks to meet with the fill-doctor and the dietician. Hopefully all goes well. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
