Ha ha! Hey luluc, I travel to Dallas a bit. I'd love to meet you sometime. Whereabouts are you?

P.S. I can't stand polls either. They are way too easily skewed. But if they're properly done, they can provide a reasonable snapshot.

that would be great to meet up - preach up my good liberal values...LOL

i'm just south /west of downtown dallas, on a ranch - but i'm downtown quite a bit.

Cool. I'll lyk when I'm going to be there next (if I'll have time to visit). I'm usually in Irving. Don't bother trying to convert me, though. I've been a hard-core conservative since age 6, when someone told me what taxes were. True story.

Gadget - What do you think about your guy's health care plan??

Gotta say it will mostly likely screw me out of health insurance - I have good insurance now provided by my employer - blue cross ppo - Under McCains program - taxing my employer for the benefit that he gives me to pay me $5000 for a $10,000 premium - I am going to be SOL...

Also - you are a smart intellegent woman - do you really respect the folksy approach to the issues that Palin presented last night

What's she going to say to Putin- "Gosh Darn Mr. Putin you know that I can see you out of my front door from MY state of Alaska and honey us soccor mom's don't want to see your blue undies.. wink wink."

IHMO - Professional women don't speak like that - she's just a little to cuties for me. And she does dodge issues - the one on Bankrucupy where she went back to engery and telling the moderator & Biden that she was going to answer the questions that she wanted to and how she wanted to..

I know that she represents you as far as the issues go - but can you really say that you like her down home small town podunk way of talking to us American's and her avoidance of the issues..

Interesting information here: Biden's Hangout Closed 15 Years Ago - IRIS Blog

The previous entry focused on Biden's gaffes and lies in last night's debate from a Middle East perspective, but this whopper is so big, it deserves its own post:

Look, all you have to do is go down Union Street with me in Wilmington or go to
Katie’s Restaurant
or walk into Home Depot with me where I spend a lot of time and you ask anybody in there whether or not the economic and foreign policy of this administration has made them better off in the last eight years.

It turns out that Katie's Restaurant closed down fifteen years ago. Talk radio host Curtis Sliwa of WABC dug this information up (audio here). He also got puzzled reactions from Wilmington Home Depots asking if anyone had ever sighted Biden. Think any mainstream reporter will follow up and ask him which Home Depot he frequents? Think any journalist will go to that Home Depot to confirm?

Joe Biden's 1988 presidential campaign shut down due to revelations of egregious plagiarism. He was discovered to have plagiarized in law school. He commits gaffes on a daily basis.

Biden succeeded in the debate by covering up who he really is.

Palin succeeded in the debate by conveying who she really is.

enjoyed your post indio.

i mentioned in the "mccain" thread earlier today; that my husband who was on the fence of who to vote for - is in london where he watched the debate w/his british colleagues.

he texted me that mccain deserves to lose by nominating the most unprofessional individual ever selected. he commented, all be it brief that his european counterparts were laughing at her. that's serious in my mind.

gadget - your right, she did convey herself.....and i don't see that as a positive.

my bad, - but seriously, in all honesty; did you find her the least bit credible/professional for the job?

I don't like either of their health care plans, but I like Obama's a heck of a lot less! Socialized medicine would be a DISASTER!

I don't have a problem with it. Just because she was folksy doesn't mean she wasn't intelligent, well spoken, and right on the issues. I prefer folksy to slick, any day of the week.

I think that's out of line. Are you suggesting that Palin isn't a professional, accomplished, effective leader? Look at her track record in Alaska; "unprofessionalism" has never been a claim leveled against her (that I've heard).

I find her extremely well spoken. She does have a midwestern way about her (accent and speech pattern), but I think she speaks plainly and people can relate to her. You may disagree with her politics, but I think the "folksy" thing is a non-issue.

Thanks LuLu - I am listening to the debates as I am on the computer right now (tivo) and you know what else I just heard her say- Oh Joe I like how you Washington guys are for it until you are against it - That's the kettle calling the pot black - She was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it.. :)

Gadget - as far as plagiarism - I think we are all guilty of that in some form - who has original ideas or thoughts (meaning the very 1st person to think the sky was blue" There are so many saying and thoughts out there and If I parrot something you said - I am committing plagiarism - do you think that everyone in this world put footnotes on everything they say or writes

Yes, yes, and yes. And I don't think my opinion is far off from the rest of America. From IRIS: Information Regarding Israel's Security (emphasis mine):

Popular opinion went to Palin:

The four indicators I would use here are: Frank Luntz's undecided focus group, Drudge Report insta-poll and Intrade Market odds.

Luntz focus group of undecideds

The Luntz polling organization gathers a reasonable sample of undecided voters for every debate and polls them immediately afterward. Palin won this group 20-4. This is unprecedented in their experience.

Drudge Report insta-poll

After 416,000 votes cast, Palin has a knockout lead of 70%-28%. It is fair to argue that Drudge's readership skews right, but compared to previous Drudge polls, this was extraordinary.

Intrade Market odds

This is the best single number to see what the general public thinks in terms of who will win the election at any given moment. At the start of yesterday's debate, the odds were heavily in Obama's favor: approximately 69:31 in favor of Obama. In the next 12 hours, the odds dropped sharply, down to 65:35. In the morning trading, Obama has gained some ground, but it is possible that this is due to the mainstream media morning-after effect.

I don't find the last two components as compelling as the first. If you listened to the Luntz focus group the night of the debate, it was fascinating to hear what that group of independents had to say. You can (and should) watch it here: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKrk_6QjcNw]YouTube - Frank Luntz Focus Group: Palin is Ready![/ame].

LOL! Sure, there are "forms" of plagiarism, but there's a difference between nuances of calling the sky blue and directly lifting someone else's speech! Furthermore, what I posted above wasn't an example of plagiarism, it was an example of an outright lie. Biden talked about walking into a restaurant to discuss the economy with people -- but the restaurant has been closed for 15 years. He talked about walking into Home Depot (where he claims to spend a lot of time) but no one can seem to find any employees of Home Depot who've ever seen him there. That's not an issue of plagiarism at all. It's an issue of trustworthiness.

got it - wrapping up cause i got me a little race in the morning.

her folksy way wouldn't cut in my fortune 500 world when i was working in high tech sales. no matter what part of the country / world you are from - you adapt to your audience. if i'm to look at her record of being just alaska, well that's just sad....because she as VP will have to engage with more than just the "avg joe six pack" & she is not even CLOSE to being capable of that endeavor.

she was cheeky & smarmy, and I wanted to root for her. her as a woman - her values and mine are polar opposites.

nite all~

I do think she comes off as unprofessional - to me a business woman doesn't wink and say oh gosh darn - like a little kid.. But that's my opinion and I don't think it's out of line as it's my opinion and since we are in the USA - I am entitled to it.. I find her very irrating to listen to.

Do you really think that the majority of the pple in the world are voting cuz of the politics - I bet you that alot of pple vote just cuz they like one person better than the other - I know it's been said that JFK was elected cuz women thought he was handsome. It might not be right - but we are going to have ton's of pple voting for Barack cuz he's black - for Palin cuz she's a women - for McCain cuz he's a POW.. And I know that alot of males aren't going to vote for McCain cuz of her.

But I really did think that her style would bug you as I didn't think you would like the winks and gosh darns - and I don't think Biden came off as slick.. But I again - I think you wear your parties glasses so you see them in a diff light - Just like I wear my parties glasses and see your party differently than you do

How to we know that Universal health care is going be be a flop... I have talked to Canadians about their health care - and they have told me if you are sick you get treatment - it you have a wart that needs removing ya it might take a while but if you have a broken bone or cancer or need immedaite surgery you get it - heck just look at how many Canadians and UK pple have bands - I don't know if the Aussies have socialized med or not...

But I am not a political major - I'm just a insurance person - so maybe you know more than me - but all I know is that our medical system needs MAJOR Changes - and I don't think in theroy socilized med is a really bad thing - but the whole issue is that McCain is going to tax small business- the pple who are just trying to give their employees some insurance -

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
