Kids IN KINDERGARTEN need to learn how to READ, not how to have protected sex.

You'd be surprised...a lot of 5 and 6 year olds today already know more about sex than some of us did when we were teens. And kids are losing their virginity at younger and younger ages...10 and 11 even. The sooner they start learning the better.

I've never once seen someone type his full name so many times in one small paragraph. Most people don't even mention his middle name. I found it odd...you don't like him anyway.

I think you're missing my point entirely. My point was about context. Yes, other politicians have used the lipstick on a pig line in the past, and yes, even McCain has. But in the context of what is going on right now in politics, it is a slam against Palin, and both he and his audience clearly knew it.

In the context of a conservative speaking about Ted Kennedy, a statement that "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it" means more than the usual understanding of the phrase (you do know about Chappaquiddick, don't you?).

In the context of a post 9/11 USA, Obama's middle name Hussein can be taken to be an attack . . . just as you took it . . . when all I was doing was "innocently" writing his full name. I did it on purpose. To make a point.

Do you get it?

Yeah I did. Too many people think negative about him because of his middle name so it really is aggravating when people do that.

Wow, Froggi, I'm a little shocked to hear you say that.

I think saying 5 yr olds know more about sex is a poor excuse to approve sex education for kindergarten. It's a better reason for society to make different changes, like limiting exposure- not increasing it. A 5 year old does not need to know these kind of things.

I don't know what kind of 5 year olds you all know, but I've never met a 5 year old that I felt needed education in this department.

Yes you are making a ridiculous point that is false he is not muslim. You can't even talk about the real issues, you use the fact his middle name is Hussein to distract from the fact that McCain is a horrible choice for president and he has no real plans to improve our country. The economy is number 1 on everyone's minds and what exactly is McCain's plan? Oh yeah to keep the bush tax cuts. Yes that has obviously worked for the country. And talk about voting records McCain has voted 90% of the time with Bush and he has the highest disapproval ratings for any president in our country. Doesn't sound like change or improvement to me!!

But by all means keep typing Barrack's full name and avoiding real issues you just might get others on your level of thinking to side with you!

If you want to teach your 5YO about sexually transmitted diseases, that's your prerogative. But don't mandate, by law, that should I choose to avail myself of the public school system (which, incidentally I don't, partly for this very reason), it will be mandatory that they are taught such things. It's a parental decision, not a state-imposed decision (or at least it shouldn't be).

I'm sure they would find some kid friendly way to explain how babies are made etc...not STDs and how to put a condom on...

Ever heard of hyperbole? If you haven't gotten the point I was making about context by now, I think there's little hope. I wasn't claiming Obama is a Muslim. I don't think he is. But it is, quite frankly, hilarious to me that his supporters take umbrage at his name.

If you'd like to have a discussion about what you meant above by "your level of thinking", I'm all for it.

BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THE BILL CALLED FOR! Read the bill and the language therein! It is NOT the government's job to teach my 5YO about STDs.

If parents had been teaching kids about not having sex when they were younger...instead of teens...maybe they wouldn't be making a bill like this now.

I have been off the site for a few weeks busy with work and so much has happened. I am absolutely ready for a women president or vice president but not Sarah Palin. Although I respect her rise in Alaska politics that is very male dominated she is not fit to be Vice President as far as we know. We know nothing about her the McCain staff has not told us. Why won't she interview with any news media. Makes me wonder what she is hiding. If she cannot stand up and be interviewed on "Meet the Press" with Tom Brokaw how is she going to handle Russia, Iran and North Korea. She is a very attractive candidate but with less than two months to the election she won't answer questions or talk without a telepromter.

Wow. "If parents had been teaching kids about not having sex . . ." Sounds to me like you're in favor of abstinence education. Which is exactly what this bill is NOT.

Her interview tonight will be interesting. You do know she's having an interview tonight, right?

And she has spoken without a teleprompter. She also runs the state of Alaska without a teleprompter. Just FYI, all of the speeches delivered at both conventions used teleprompters. It appears to only have become an issue that she used one.

comm'on gadget - when mccain said it, it was in may of this yr when he was describing the "failed" healthcare proposal of hillary clinton back in '93. was the democratic audience not sophisticated enough to get that jab, as the republicans are now with obama's comment "possibly" directed @ palin? to me it was the comment of an old man & many dems took it that way - but the uproar because obama made a similar remark....well goodness .. put it to rest. i said before, just stupid. on all fronts..move on.

sex ed - got a problem, (holding my liberal flag mind ya).

i couldn't get access to my local ISD for either a sit in on a sex ed class, nor get the curriculum. it's very unfortunate that parents are not comfortable having a sexuality discussion w/their children that they rely up on the school to do so. i as a parent (and am not nor will be), not afraid to have that discussion w/my kid - should be concerned with what's shared & at what age. do i want my 5 yr old to know about STD's - absolutely not....but i would like he/she to understand inappropriate behavior & feel comfortable with ME (the parent) to report any such "improper touching".

this one issue does not an election make - for me at least; but it's interesting to read all the responses..

One other thing about teleprompters . . . you do know that Obama rarely speaks without one, that he turned down McCain's request to do a series of 10 "Town Hall" meetings, and that even when he speaks "off the cuff" (or what appears to be so) to a group, he still has bullet-pointed "talking points" on the teleprompters?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
