comm'on gadget - when mccain said it, it was in may of this yr when he was describing the "failed" healthcare proposal of hillary clinton back in '93. was the democratic audience not sophisticated enough to get that jab, as the republicans are now with obama's comment "possibly" directed @ palin? to me it was the comment of an old man & many dems took it that way - but the uproar because obama made a similar remark

The difference is McCain didn't say it shortly after Hillary had made a joke that had been repeated hundreds, if not thousands, of times on the national and local media and at the Water coolers across America that directly referenced lipstick, with visuals of her pointing to her mouth (as she did in the speech).

Again, it is all about context. Name me supporters of any political candidate in history who object to hearing their candidate's middle name. I don't think there exists one, except for Barack Hussein Obama. If I said "Franklin Delano Roosevelt", no one would cry "foul". But they do when I say "Barack Hussein Obama". It's all about the current political climate. The lipstick joke has to be addressed in context.

Look at what Obama said immediately before that line. He quoted, almost word-for-word, a cartoon that had been printed about McCain days earlier. He spent time searching for the words to get that quote right. You can see him searching around in his head to make the words come out right. He rehearsed that, and he rehearsed the lipstick and fish jokes as well. He knew what he was saying.

sex ed - got a problem, (holding my liberal flag mind ya).

i couldn't get access to my local ISD for either a sit in on a sex ed class, nor get the curriculum.

Did you go to the website I referenced earlier? I have a feeling your hair would turn white at some of the things that are discussed in public sex ed classes. And I have heard stories of explicit sex ed classes being presented to kindergartners. It does happen.

Why can't they both just stick to the issues - they both need to quit nit picking on stupid word (she herself said the diff between a hockey non and a bit bull was lipstick - she was talking about her self) so if I wanted to I could say - Hockey mom is no dif that a bitch with lipstick - and I as a hockey mom might take offense at this statement cuz I don't consider myself a dog or a bitch...

It's the issues pple - not this stupid crap ....

I can say the sky looks purple today - and if you want to look hard enough you will find away to misconstrue it to saying something totally different than what I ment...

This is why I HATE POLITICS - they all find the most stupidest things to bicker about - Issues !!!

I do know that Palin is interviewed today for a "Barbara Walter's type interview" with Charlier Gibson to be aired on 2020 tomorrow night. Hardly "Meet the Press". Where else is she going to answer tough questions? She has nothing scheduled. Obama has been interviewed everywhere including Fox New with Bill O'Rielly. He has answered tough question without a telepromter. He has debated a number of times in the primary. We have heard Obama, McCain and Biden speak without a telepromter. Not in recent history has a candidate for President of VP not been answered questions for 2 weeks after their announced. What is it that the McCain campaign is affraid of?

Indiogirl,

They are trying to distract Americans so they don't have to answer the tough questions. They are wrong on policy and would rather we discuss lipstick on a pig.

John McCain is not the man I have respected for over two decades.

the lipstick joke is just that - improper; not really funny & stupid...BY all who have used it. it however is great fodder for those that want it to be.

i have ZERO issue with anyone barking about obama's middle name - it is HIS name. if that's offensive to some because of "fear" - well then GWB did his job well. his name is his name be a jew/italian/irish/asian/afrian/muslim - those who have biases will continue to do so. so type it out - each and every time....no worries here.

yes i did - i still wanted to know what my public schools were teaching & that reluctance is an issue.

I think you'll be seeing a lot of interviews with her coming down the pike. She's been a little busy for the past two weeks, for Pete's sake! You know, come to think of it I can't remember an interview that Biden's been in since he was nominated. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, yeah, I know, Biden's been interviewed before. But, hmmm, so had Palin.

What's interesting is that when Obama's middle name is used, it's not the Republicans who react -- it's the Democrats! So if the reason is "fear" and "biases", then it's coming from the left, not the right.

Yep I agree... But this is why I tune out... I really hate it - I just want to know each sides stands on the issues. I'm pro-choice - so the dem's have me there - I beleive I should be able to own a gun - the repub's have me there.. - What are they going to do about health care cost - renewalble energy - the war and terrorism - Darfur.

Heck my boss who is Mr. Repulican - just told me that he doesn't think it would be bad if Obama did win .. So - who know's - we will find out on 11/5/08 - as long as we don't have any CHAD problems...

Biden was on Meet the Press last Sunday. He has been on the show over 20 times in his career. She has no interviews scheduled. She wants to be VP of the US with a president that is 72 years old and battled cancer. They are trying to run the clock out so she does not have to answer the tough questions because she is not prepared to be a heart beat away from the White House. I'll bet her next interview will be Fox News.

I disagree - I think it's use to instill fear in who he is cuz of his name - no diff than Divamom with her obama la biden simaliarities....

Personally I don't care what his name is or what his religion is - it's his stands on the issues that matter to me...

OK, back to the REAL issues. Here are a few quotes that have come out about Palin:

“Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus. Pontius Pilate was a governor.”

“She’s never actually used the word Shiite in a sentence before. She’s never had to. She’s never given any thought whatsoever to nuclear proliferation. She’s never had to. She’s never thought about Israel, Russia, Korea, or Iran. She’s never even thought about Mexico. So, what HAS she thought about? I mean, what has she thought about that’s going to directly affect you and me if (yes, God forbid) she has to slip into the role of the most powerful leader on the face of the planet? Well, we know she’s given a lot of thought to your uterus. Hell, I think about your uterus all the time and nobody should ever elect me to any office.

“John McCain has chosen a running mate whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”

If the red phone rings in the middle of the night and she’s breastfeeding, will she answer it?”

Fair? I think not.

not this democrat - but i do notice many repulicans finding the need to "use" it. as though it's a "bad" thing - it's his heritage. period

republicans are passive aggressive in using his middle name - for the shear purpose of fear - democrats respond in kind. i don't agree with that either - but lets not let the repubs off the hook with what their intentions are by using it.

Nope but gotta interject some humor here before we all start shooting each other..

I am a firm believer in sometimes you gotta poke fun - even at yourself

We can't be serious 24/7 - Smile laugh it will make us all live longer..

Oh but wait - I guess the republican will be doing the shoot cuz us dems want gun control :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
