I knew nothing about her, I thought for sure it would have been Tommy Ridge.

Did a little research (Lord, no matter which side you are on, please know voting records etc of the candidate you are interested in) and I like her, lots.

I don't vote straight party line but I am a registered Republican and am proud of it.

I wish we hadn't strayed soo far left or right in both parties. That only served to divide us more.

Anyhoo...I think she would be great in office ( I generally don't like Mccain-way too liberal for me).

The main reason I don't like Obama is because he's a socialist. The answer for the Democrats, when the economy is doing well, is "raise taxes." The answer for the Democrats, when the economy is doing poorly, is "raise taxes." Therefore, I believe their goal is redistribution of wealth, nothing more. They just try to make it sound pretty by telling you it's only going to affect "the other guy."

If you think that because you don't make a certain arbitrary threshold of income per year that a tax increase won't affect you, you just aren't aware of the facts. An increased corporate tax will affect what you spend on items you purchase. An increased tax on small and large businesses will affect your paycheck. The list can go on forever.

Imagine if every time you went to a restaurant and bought food, someone came over to you and took somewhere between 25% and 40% right off your plate before you had a chance to eat it. Or if every time you went to the store and bought clothes, someone picked through your bag and took 25-40% of what you bought.

I firmly believe payroll tax withholding is the biggest coup of the government. If taxes weren't taken out of our paychecks but instead everyone had to pay their taxes by writing a check every week, month, or year, the sentiment about taxes would be dramatically different in this country. Instead, we have this stupid mentality around April of every year that, "Woo hoo! I'm getting a refund check!" -- like someone is giving you a gift -- when it was your money to start out with!

There are many, many other reasons I don't support Obama. None of them has to do with his cultural background or his name.

gadget lady I watched coverage from CNN APT Fox and MSNBC. 5 or 10 brown people in a midst of tens of thousands of whites is not a true representative of diversity. I don't expect you to understand that so I won't try to convince you otherwise. The truth speaks for itself. What channel were you watching?

hey let's not make this about race because that is not how I live my life. I just saw some comments in earlier posts that smelled of bigotry and I wanted to offer a counter position based on this country's history. I don't like the way the conversation is turning so I won't participate in that aspect of it.

Jack: thank you for recognizing and accepting the olive branch that was offered in the earlier post, old timer!

I watched Fox and CSpan. I'm not asking you to convince me so there's no need to say things like "I don't expect you to understand" -- I was just wondering what channel you watched, because I did see people from all walks of life; certainly more than "5 or 10 brown people".

That being said, IMO the physical measure of diversity isn't as important as the message being delivered. For example, I have been to churches where 100% of the people are white and I don't agree with the message, and I have been to churches where 100% of the people are black (except me) and I do agree with the message. I don't care about the color or look of the people around me; I care about the intellectual validity of the message being delivered.

Good for you! Nor do I, and I think I just communicated that in my last post (at least I hope I did).

lord have mercy

:) I'm confused. Is there a problem with something I've said, or are you referring to something else? I'm not being snarky or attacking or anything -- I'm just trying to figure out what the problem is. You don't need to answer if you don't want to, but I'm happy to address it if it's a problem you have with me.

Personally, I think that she looks great to have given birth several times! I have only had one child and I wish my body bounced back like hers.

The Republican theory of trickle down economics just absolutely does not work. Look at our economy right now and tell me that giving tax breaks to large corporations works for all Americans. It does not work. It works to make the greedy corporate big wigs wealthier. We have seen this over and over when Republicans are in control and allow the lobbyists to run the place.

What I'm talking about... what Senator Obama is talking about... is FAIRNESS. We're not talking about unfairly taxing corporations! That's Republican mumbo jumbo. We're talking about the rich paying their fair share instead of middle class playing more than their fair share.

Sure the Democrats usually wind up raising taxes. But it is not because they are socialists - as you suckers would have people believe. It is because by the time they get back in office, they have to get the country back on track after having a ruinous Republican president. check out your history books. I don't have to - I've lived through it time and again. As for President Bush's father, the first President Bush, remember what he said, "no new taxes"? And he had to eat his words publically - he did raise taxes - because he had no choice. At least the first President Bush had a conscience, and his conscience is called Barbara.

When was the last time any business that you frequent has cut their prices because their costs went down??? Get serious. I can't believe that you think that by paying their fair share of taxes, it will be bad for you and me. Please, stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and his ilk. They will lie to you and tell you that their "truth" was given to them in a vision by the Lord Himself. I have little tolerance for people who are bald-faced liars like Rush Limbaugh.

And Jack, I do not get my information from the DNC. I get my information from real life experiences and knowledge. I don't depend on any politician to tell me what to believe about the economy.

I am impressed that you are wealthy enough to be comfortable with the Republican way of life. Truthfully, I am too. But I have a conscience and I know what is fair.

re: "Those programs instilled little of benefit and did much damage to the then-relatively intact social structure of inner city families."

The "hood" called and said that they did not authorize you to issue that statement on their behalf.

"Fairness" doesn't mean tax the "rich" more because you or anyone else arbitrarily thinks "they" can afford it. "Fairness" doesn't mean arbitrarily putting someone else's hard-earned money up for grabs just because you or anyone else thinks they have "too much" or "more than they need".

Our forefathers had a Tea Party due (in part) to a whopping tax rate of 4%. The participants are officially turning over in their graves.

What the government does in the name of "fairness" and "redistribution of wealth" and a bunch of other euphemisms, is, quite simply, theft. They hold a gun to our heads and take, in some cases, up to 40% or more of our money. And Obama wants to raise it. I don't give a damn what his reasons are; it's not the government's money and they're not entitled to it. Socialism doesn't work; never has, never will. The only way we're going to get a handle on our national bills is to decrease spending, not increase taxes. And, unfortunately, both parties have recently had a history of being woefully incapable or unwilling to do that.

Ever watch any of the popular shows like, "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" or "Don't Forget the Lyrics" or the like? When that "lucky" person wins $100,000, they really don't -- because Uncle Sam always gets his cut, regardless of whether the money is earned, won, or inherited. The take-home is closer to about $55,000 (which is a nice windfall, but still not what they won). And that just plain sucks.

Jack most Republicans would have us believe that Democrats want a welfare, socialist system. That is just not true.

The fact that Congressional members have incentives to set up programs that we call "pork barrel spending" and the lobbyists have sufficiently incentivized our Congress to pass laws that will benefit them, doesn't mean that the taxes we pay aren't needed or often used for the good of all of us. The fact that we have bad government programs doesn't mean that we shouldn't have ANY government programs. The fact that we have corrupt government officials doesn't mean that we shouldn't work to run our country in such a way that is good for the masses instead of the few.

I don't believe that things are being done properly across the board and that's a big reason why we need decent leadership. We need people who know the difference between good government programs and bad ones and have the fortitude to do something about it.

Contrary to the Reagan quote about all government being bad, the government actually does do a whole lot of good for this country. We can't do without it. But we can improve it.

It is interesting that so many people complain about having to pay taxes, but they all want a safe infrastructure, good schools, parks for their children, clean air and Water and no bums on the streets begging for a handout everytime they leave a building. They want this country to stay on the cutting edge of technology, have a massive military that is second to none, be able to depend on our mail system, and on and on. How do they expect these things to be paid for, donation?

The reason you don't get what I'm about is perhaps because you don't understand someone with a social conscience. I love this country. I want this country to improve and to be the most powerful nation in the world. I want our country to take care of its own, not have people who don't know how to read or write. I want people to be able to have all the advantages that modern medicine offers, right here in their own country. We shouldn't have to go to countries like Mexico and Canada to get affordable medicine and medical care. I don't want socialized medicine anymore than you do, but the Democrats didn't single handedly get us into this mess. Insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and insane lawyers have certainly contributed to that.

And as for Jimmy Carter, I thought Republicans all thought he was a singularly worthless president who was unable to get anything done. At least that's what I've heard most often about President Carter.

You and I will obviously never agree on what is good for this country. But isn't it great that we can discuss our differences and vote for people who are as far apart politically as McCain and Senator Obama. God Bless America. (America, the land of the free and home of the brave and the country that our taxes built.)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
