I am really confused ... can you please help me and let me know the weight of food that I can eat at one time and should I measure the weight before cooking or after cooking ... also is this weight constant for any type of food i.e with solid food as well as mushy food ....another problem ... can anyone give me a rough list of things that I should eat for optimal results and things that I should totally avoid .. and one last thing ... I am still burping a lot after eating ... has anyone experienced this ... can it cause my band to slip

its not the weight. Its the size. My nutritionist told me that I could fit 3-4 ounces in my pouch. She said to get out a one ouce shot glass and compare my food to that. Just make sure you are eating small pieces and chewing a lot. Remember your eyes are always bigger than your stomach. You should be very careful about spitting up. My band was too tight and ended up swelling shut. I had to be deflated and start again. So make sure that you just chew chew chew.

good luck. hope that helps

I was told to buy a food scale and measure all my food. Once I start eating solids. I use a measuring cup for my liquids, and a 1/4 cup for my semi solids like cottage cheese and pudding. I buy the pre-made puddings and Jello so I know what I am eating. I have had no fill yet, but feel pretty full after a half cup of anything. Or a cup of cream Soup sipped slowly.

I don't have the mushier food like eggs till next week when I start my 5th week since the surgery. I am losing maybe 2-3 lbs. a week. I can start riding my bike this coming week. And doing more exercises . That should speed up the weight loss. But I am happy with 2 lbs. a week now.

I get my first fill the middle of September. I am hoping to hit a sweet spot by my second or third fill.

I am allowed to have 2 ounces of things like cottage cheese, Beans, oatmeal/cream of wheat/grits and 3 oz of high Protein Soup and light yogurt. I can eat this amount for breakfast/snack/lunch/snack/dinner. When I can have fruit and vegetables I can only have 1 ounces of those and continue the 2 oz of the other for a total of 3 ounces. That is less than a half a cup.

I was told by Dr to only eat 1/2 cup at a time.3 hrs between but if I felt full befor 1/2 cup stop. I have to admit though when I eat Soup I do eat alot more than 1/2 cup. As for the Burping I had that Problem For first 8 mo. really loud burps starting from deep in my stomach Dr said to try to learn to breath out through the nose while swallowing. Really hard to do but it really helps.

I weigh my cooked meat on the scale, 2-4 oz by weight, I use a measuring cup for veggies (1/2 cup) and starches (1/4 cup).

So I might have 2-4 oz fish with 1/2 a cup of peas and 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes for dinner.

Here is a link to my blog of what I usually eat:

Every doctor has a different set of "rules." The best source for information is your own doctor or nutritionist. Were you given any kind of instruction?

I weigh my Protein, and measure veggies. At each meal, I have 3-4 ounces of Protein (meat, fish, poultry, or legumes). At one meal a day, I add 1/2 cup nonstarchy veggie. At another, I have a fruit. I won't add starches (other than legumes)/grains back in until I've lost at least 75 percent of my excess weight.

My doctor's plan is obviously stricter than many---this is why it's a good idea to check with your own.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
