HI, I'm not the average lapband patient, but.....

Recommended Posts

what's average anyway? I'm 30 years of age and I live in NY. I've been banded since April of 2004 and my decision to do so is the best decision I have ever made. I was never obese, but I did and still do have a weight problem in my head and physically. I'm been working on my mental conditioning throughout my journey with the band and keep reminding myself that the band is a tool, not the answer. There is always work to be done. My goal is to eventually be well enough to get rid of the band all together, although at this juncture that idea petrifies me.

I got the band when I weighed about 175. I now weigh 138 and I am happy with my weight. I feel more alive then ever and I'm not bogged down of what other people might think of me. I have always struggled with my weight through bulemia and other mental disfuntion, depression etc.

I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico with Dr. Raumbaut struggled, who I would recommend to anyone, anytime. He was a complete professional, not to mention an absolute doll.

I'm glad there is a forum like this online. Everybody needs a place to meet on things like this. Thanks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
