First fill after 4 months (frustrated)

Recommended Posts

Hi All -

SO I am a little frustrated and I really hope this works. Today I had my first fill after 4 months. I had my surgery on 04/28/08. I lost about 30 pounds in the first 6 weeks. Then it starting coming off very slow. I lost about 7-8 more pounds and then it just stopped. I had my 3 month check up and the Dr. said it was time for a fill. Now my insurance company requires you wait 90 after surgery to get the first fill. SO with that being said, it took another month to get the appointment for the fill. My Dr does it at the hospital under the flouroscope with the barium swallow. I got 2.6 cc's in my 11 cc band. I have been on liquids all day so I am not too sure if I notice a difference. I want this to work soooo badly but I feel like I have no will power. Why is that? Why do I do this to myself continually??? I just got back from vacation and I noticed I gained a few pounds. Has that happened to anyone????? I guess I deserved that - I ate everything in site.

I have been pretty good with the sliming and the PB's - ony happened about 6 times. Hopefully this will work....

What does everybody else do to get their head in the game?? I could really use some tips or pointers.

Thanks

You may not feel the restriction with only 2.6 in the band. But about the PB & slimeing I would try to remember what and how you were eating. Without any restriction I am surprised you had that problem. We all have to remember those wonderful words, small bites and chew chew chew. Good luck

I guess maybe I had some kind of restriction if I had PB & Sliming??

You are so right with the band there is a restriction that gave us the new small pouch. Normally (if I can use that term ,we are all different) if I take small bites and chew carefully I never felt any restriction. Only when I ate to fast or took big bites and swallowed did I ever feel like something wasn't right. I have never PB (cross my fingers) or slimed. I'm scheduled to fill again on tuesday and that has me worried about getting to tight. I already have 4.6 in a 10 band.

I have had 4 fills total of 6cc in a 10 cc band. I have learned to chew, chew and chew some more, Hardly any burping now, very little gas. I feel like I can eat a little more. But I seem to stay full for a very long time 6-7 hrs soem meals. It used to be every 2-3 hrs I was starving. I think I am getting very close to my sweet spot. I have another fill next week. I am down from a 16/18 to a 6/8 now. exercise like crazy, walk 4-6 miles every day at one time and some extra laps at lunch weather permitting and free weightrs 4 x week. We are possessed by that weight loss, more more. great motivator. I have to watch how I eat, that means pay attention while I am eating. hang in there.:tongue2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
