Recommended Posts

While reading a thread in the blog, they said that there are NO

breads, Pasta or any starchy foods on the post-op nuitrition list...

is this for everyone, or was that something special in their diet?????:tt2:

Well, each surgeon is different.

pastas and breads give many people problem with bands.

I don't have problems with it, though I mostly try to keep the carbs down anyway.

They don't like you to have it. Some people can't tolerate the starches, and nutritionally, they want you to consumer your Protein first, then veggies, then carbs. SO...by the time you get to the carbs, theoretically you should already be full. I have had whole wheat pastalaya. My hubby makes it and it is incredibly good. I tolerated it well and I have pretty good restriction. Everyone is different. If you try it, you may want to try the whole wheat, since it isn't as "sticky".

Is this the forever food list or just post op. If it is just post op those foods can give people trouble because they can get Gummy in the band. However I love eating them all and I have no real trouble with them.

I just had my 2 week post op visit with my nutrionist and was suprised that in my next phase I am allowed to have a half a slice of low cal wheat bread or 2 wheat crackers or 1/2 of a light english muffin. Can have them with Peanut Butter or cheese or make a mimi pizza with the english muffun. I can't have some thing that most have in the mushy stage but I wasn't arguing.

Ariel, I think it depends on the person. It seems that some foods give certain people problems all of the time if they have some restriction. My friend can eat almost anything. I have problems with bread (kinda sticks) but not whole wheat Pasta. I think the starches and some meats are the most likely culprits, but each person is different.

I accepted the fact that I may not ever be able to eat certain foods before I ever had surgery, so if I can, it is a bonus. If I can't, I will live (probably).

As far as bread, Pasta and rice go I cannot eat any of it. I didn't try it until I was almost 5 months out and none of it worked for me. I am alright with not being able to eat that stuff since I was a HUGE carb addict before the band. I cannot say that I miss it one bit. I do still eat crackers and those always go well for me.

I've been able to eat all foods, in moderation of course!

Each person is different and each doc's instructions are as well. For me, I wasn't going to live the rest of my life not being able to eat A or B or C...and so far, no problems (6 months banded)

I also eat all foods in moderation, carbs included. We dont do "Protein first" in Australia, and Australians by and large lose weight just fine.

I eat wholegrain versions where possible and I try to avoid really processed white carbs although I have a weakness for rice cakes with Peanut Butter on them! But yeah, good heavy wholegrain bread, brown Pasta, brown rice, same calories but way more nutritious.

A lot of people just cant eat those foods though, they cause them pain and vomiting.

But overall, compared to Americans, I eat a very carb focussed, even low Protein diet (probably 40 to 50 grams a day) and I do just fine. It makes me feel good, gives me energy to run a lot and has gotten and kept me thin.

I have a 10cc band and no fills. I cannot tolerate soft bread, Pasta, and rice. I also can't tolerate lettuce and dry meats (chicken breasts are out). Don't ask me why, but I can't.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
