Raw Oysters

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 8/15 and have had no probelms...I am on mushies and soon to go onto real food. I love raw fish....Are raw oysters compatible with the lap band?

As long as you eat them by themselves on an empty stomach, they should slide right through, I think. They are pretty slimy and pliable.

I am not really sure thats something you would wanna eat in the mushy stage. Once you have restriction too it might be a little tough getting em down.

The general rule is "chew until it's goo." I don't know if I would want to do that to a raw oyster. On second thought, there isn't anything I would want to do to a raw oyster.

With good companions, good alcohol, cocktail sauce and crackers, it can be quite delicious.

LOL Dionna,

I got banded on the 20th and I don't know from experience yet since I am still on my liquid diet BUT I think you are just going to have to try it and see how it works for you. You probably don't chew them much when you used to eat them, but you should chew it (or try at least) to help it get as small as possible- GOOD LUCK HUN! Let us know how is goes down

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
