I have been reading and reading and reading this website for the last month and a half. I have posted several times and gotten great advice so I figured it is time I introduced myself.

My name is Lindsay. I live in Austin, Texas. I am 28 and have been struggling with a weight issue my entire life. I am thrilled to have finally found a tool to really help.

After a ton of research, heart ache and fear, I finally took the leap to get banded in Mexico. I do not weigh enough to be covered in the states. I was banded on Tuesday by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana, Mexico. Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez were wonderful.

I have a wonderful job, a good education, lots of friends, a good family and lots of laughs but my weight was finally to the point where it was causing me to miss out on life.

I consider the band a leap of faith in God, myself, and modern medicine.

Thanks to all of you who have posted. You are brave, honest and inspiring!

Lindsay

Congratulations on being banded Lindsay!!!! Your story sounds a lot like mine. I just got sick and tired of being fat and tired. I am through with missing out on life and being scared to try new things. I too took a giant leap of faith, crossed the border, and am now living day by day with my new buddy, my band. Best of luck to you on your journey. It isn't easy, but I am so glad I did it. Welcome to LBT.

Thanks everyone. Things are going really well except sour stomach and reflux. Just getting use to the band and the sensitvity now. Is that all normal? Like not eating a couple of hours before bed because it upsets my stomach. Does this get any better?

Thanks again. I know it is an exciting new time. It is also a little scary when your body is adjusting.

Welcome Lindsay! Glad to hear that things are going well, except for the reflux. Hope it gets better for you! I'm like that now, pre-band. I can't eat anything about two to three hours before I go to bed, or I'll be up all night chomping Maalox and feeling miserable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
