Banded on 9/25/03 my new birthdate

I can't believe it, I'm actually banded. I was banded on Thursday and today (Saturday) I'm cleaning my house. I am still in pain when I get up or lay down but for the most part i'm ok. My shoulder reallllly hurts and I didn't expect that to happen but the nurse said it was from the gas that they blow you up with and it will go away in time. Aside from that and being verrry hungry, i'm ok. After my surgery that morning, i was able to get up and pee. That was very difficult to do by the way but i managed. Then I walked the halls a few times that night. I came home Friday afternoon and slept for awhile and now 6 Am Saturday morning I was able to do some housecleaning. I'm so happy now, I know i'm on my way. I have a long road ahead of me but i'm ready. For once in my life I know i'm going to make it. I'm very new here and I don't post much but I want to thank everyone on here for all the advice. I love your posts and I can't wait to get to know you all.

Congrats! You're on your way now. Please take my advise and don't overdo it even though you are feeling great. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and I was feeling very good but knew enough to take it easy. Last Monday I went to do something by my pool and had to get down on my hands and knees and when I got up I got a shooting pain under my ribs on my left side. I must have pulled a muscle. I emailed my doc and he thinks that's is what it is. It still hurts when I get out of a chair and when I laugh but it is getting better. So please take care of yourself. Just because we only have little tiny scars on the outside doesn't mean that they weren't doing a lot of stuff to us on the inside.

Hi Alicia, thanks! how are you doing by the way?

Chris, i'm trying to take it slow really. I've got my two little girls helping me with the house. It hurts to bend over and pick up things so they are doing most of the heavy work for me. But I was able to sweep a little although it did take awhile and do the dishes and hang up some clothes. Believe me, I learned my lesson about ten years ago when I had my breast reduction done about not over doing it. I thought I was ok and was trying to move a t.v.!! well i ended up poping open one of my incisions and had to get it repaired. Now I have a huge ugly scar from what should have only been a small one. I won't do anything crazy like that again beeeelieve me. *smiles* I'm just amazed at how easy this surgery was compared to my others like the C-sections and the hysterectomy. I have to say the breast reduction was above all the worst though. I had over two hundred stiches on the inside and out and they took ten pounds of "junk" out of my breasts. That surgery took ten hours! BLAH. Look at me rambling on....take care of yourself.

Congratulations, bandster-baby!! Please do take care of yourself--but it sounds as though you know how to do that. Keep those girls busy, I say! And when they make a mess, keep 'em busy cleaning up. (You can clean up after them later on. :) )

Welcome to bandlandia!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
