Hi.my name is nancie and I had my lapband on June 19. I am so frustrated and wonder if this surgery will ever start working for me. I lost 13 lbs the 2 wks prior to surgery, and another 6 lbs after, but so far that is it. I had my first fill of 2cc with no restriction. My Dr then have me 1 more cc, making the total 3. Still I have no restriction and can eat anything with no adverse reaction. I am trying to lose but my band is not doing its part. Anyone else have this problem? I wish I knew beforehand that this would be a long process. I had hoped to be skinny by now!LOL!!

I do excersise and drink lots of Water. I admit that eating and drinking has been a struggle.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Nancie I'm sorry you're unhappy but I can't believe you didn't know it takes a while to get things situated, and that WL is 1-2 pounds a week average! you're just kidding, right?

When I spoke with the Nurse today she said that the newer LapBand is larger so it takes a little longer to find your "sweet spot". The average weightloss is 1-2 pounds a week...It took you a while to put the pounds on...it's going to take sometime to get them off too!!! It'll come, just give it time and give it your all!!! Good luck!:smile2:

Nancie: Have you ever had success losing weight before? Like on Weight Watchers? If you have, you might try following those general rules again. I know that I'm having success using the Weight Watchers points system (I use WW Online). I've only had one fill, and I don't feel a lot of restriction but am still losing weight because I'm following a plan and am logging in all that I eat. I allow myself a 1 pt snack in the morning and afternoon and I always have a Protein Shake with strawberries with my meds in the evening. oatmeal for Breakfast, a Lean cuisine for lunch, and we eat out every evening (I have a small scale I keep in my purse to make sure I get all the Protein I need). So far I'm happy with where I am. Find a site where you can log what you are eating, that's what really works for me because its an active thing to do. That way you are not relying solely on the band. Above all, be patient. You just have to find your groove. You now have that tool in your toolbox, that's a done deal. Now you have to do the work. God Bless.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am trying harder to follow the rules to the "T" and plan my meals ahead. I appreciate the tips and suggestions. Thanks again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
