Dr. Albert Gilman, Decatur, Illinois

Recommended Posts

I am being banded by Dr. Gilman in Decatur in September and was wondering if there was anyone else he has banded.

I know he has recently banded a few and there is to be one other banded on the same day that I am. Kind of excited to meet my "banding buddy" on that day. I hope to, anyway. :smile2:

Do you have your date yet? There are so many Doctor's doing this now. Personally I really didn't have a choice, HMO. They did let me have a second opinion since the first Dr was a - sorry that word just slipped off the page, must be big brother watching.:wink2:

Anyway good luck!

Supposed to be sometime in September but I am waiting to hear back from them. Tammy (his nurse) was supposed to be coordinating with the proctor to get it all set up.

If you go to google and type Dr. Albert Gilman, there is a woman who was banded by him in 2003 or 04 and she has before after pics and she looks great. He is the only one nearest me who accepts medicaid.

Now, I was wondering, how do you go about getting an appointment or knowing your insurance will cover it and if you even qualify? (I.E. My BMI is 37.8, I have asthma, knee, ankle, back problems, I'm stage 2 hypertension also.) Do I need a doctor's refferal? or do i just call? Let me know, I'm really new to all this.

You need to probably check with your insurance to see if they cover the surgery. Then, if they do, I would call and set up a consultation and go from there.

I know Dr. Gilman will supposedly only do the surgery if you have an initial BMI of 40. The hospital he does surgery at has the same requirement, I believe. It would be a worth a shot to call though. It may have changed lately.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
