Any one not have pre-op diet???

Recommended Posts

thank you for all the responses! My doctor is very on top of things. He is Dr. S. Zagorski. It is a requirement that Lapband patients loose 5% of their weight or at least make a medically documented attempt. I have PCOS so my weightloss isn't a full 5% but close !

That sounds very dangerous to me. The pre-op diet serves many purposes...one of them is to make sure that you can stick to this, another is to shrink your liver making surgery easier. If your surgeon doesn't think it's "worth the fight" he doesn't know a lot about this surgery. Be careful, please.

I said this on the first page, but so many people came in and said the opposite that I guess my opinion got lost in the shuffle.

I will do a pre-op diet, because I don't want to be put under and wake up to find that I had a fatty liver and that I don't have a lap band because of it.

I think that because of the diet and requirements that he does not feel a prolonged preop liquid diet is necessary. You do have to follow a nutritionist for2 to 6 months prior and have to loose weight. He does make you do liquids 24 hours prior and after. I am completely comfortable with my surgeon and his desicions. He is awesome!!

I'm completely comfortable with my surgeon, and NO required liquid or special diet. His success rate is incredible, so I'm doing as he said... well no.. I'm not going into this constipated, so I'll mainly stick to liquids the day before, and take some laxatives if necessary to clean out good. I've had an ex lap with being a little backed up, and one without. Boy getting my bowels working after the one where I had some stool left was a nightmare. So I know for me, I'll do that part, but it's not necessary.

I am having my surgery at a "center of excellence" as well as various other distinctions. I don't have lengthy preop and I am confident that my surgeon knows a lot about this surgery.

I didn't need a pre op diet either. I was banded three days ago and am fine. I was also at a Bariatric Specialty hospital and my nurse had bypass 5 years ago...I'm fairly certain they knew what they were doing.

I had no preop diet and ate a decent size meal the night before and came out with no trouble, pain controled mostly by ibprofuen and walking. Do what your doctor says and don't worry they are the expert. I had my surgery just this past thursday and i am doing great.

Take Care

I understand that everyone here feels comfortable with their docs, otherwise we wouldn't let them operate on us...but I've already lost 15 lbs, and I haven't even had the surgery yet. By the time I get the surgery on october 8th, I'll have lost between 30 and 40 lbs...so I will get to my goal weight an awful lot faster. 6 weeks of Optifast is harsh, but it's a test...for me. In this time I can show myself that I can do this 100% with no doubt in my mind at all. I've done 6 weeks of a liquid diet...a month of post op won't be hard at all. I'm thankful for the pre op diet personally.

My doctor requires two weeks pre-op diet of liquid diet that consists of 4 carnation no-sugar added instant Breakfast or 4 slim fasts plus sugar free Jello or sugar free popsicles. That's it. The day before surgery is clear liquid only plus bowel cleansing. So those of you who didn't have to do this got off easy because I am on day two of this and struggling.

I had a week of preop diet. It was anything but complex carbs. My Dr. explained that he has had patients that didn't do the preop diet, and when he went to do the surgery he had to stop and reschedule due to fatty liver.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
