Boars Head Turkey

Recommended Posts

The doc told me thar puree means you can chew food into a liquid form. You should not have a problem with the turkey if you chew it really, really well.

I thought puree's were anything that went through a food processor sort of the texture of pudding or applesauce, like mushy foods, baby foods

In my opinion I do no think boars head turkey is a pureed food unless you put it in the blender or food processor.. I could be wrong.

Soups, mashed potatos, yogurt, cottage cheese. Don't introduce solids until your doc says it's okay. Any kind of meat, including deli, is considered a solid food. If you chew steak enough it will turn to mush, but that doesn't mean we should eat it. Every time you introduce food into your pouch, the stomach starts moving & wiggling to begin the digestive process. Mushies slide right through the pouch, where solids need more work. Why take chances swallowing bits & pieces that aren't pureed? I'd put the turkey in a food processor first to make pate'. Follow the rules, that's why they're written.

Really if you're on purees, the only way you can have egg salad or tuna salad is to mix up the salad, then put it through the food processor until it's the consistency of a spread. You could do the same thing with the deli turkey...chop it up, make a salad from it and put it through the food process. Puree means somewhat runny, absolutely no chunks or lumps...but thicker than liquids that could go up a straw...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
