Sure this is normal! The surgeon stitched the port to muscle tissue, so its definately gonna be sore for probably a week. Just drink that liquid tylenol - it should help the discomfort! :)

I was banded on 5/24 and it took about 10 days before the pain around my port finally went away. For most of this time it felt like a hot poker being poked in my side....but it does go away, just takes time.

I found that for me, raising my arm above my head every so often and doing a very, very light stretch helped.

It gets better, hang in there!!!

Some heal fast, others take longer. Could take months before it feels comfy, and even after your port is fully healed you may have days where it seems to bug you, or you may totally forget it's even there. But you'll always have to take special care of the area - just ask around about the gal who stretched too far and damaged the port.

At 3 days out, yup, totally normal. The incision through which your port was placed is your largest incision...it's the most invasive portion of banding surgery and yea it'll be sore for a while...you may feel pulling-soreness for several weeks...try not to get all bendy/twisty at this time. But it will start feeling better 1-2 weeks out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
