So, I was banded on the 18th, 9 days ago. Monday I returned to work. I teach at a college and had to stand and lecture 3 hours in the AM and 3 hours in the PM with 6 hours office work in between. You can bet I was scared to go back.

Well, Monday was not bad. I got a little sore after the 2nd class. Yesterday was great. I feel like being up and moving and being busy has helped. The shoulder pain I had is all but gone and my belly barely has an ache.

I know that not everyone handles pain the same way and everyone is not as lucky as I feel I have been with this but for all who are struggling, take heed, it WILL get better. I really think that getting moving, even taking a short walk around the block, helps.

Oh, and I've lost 14 pounds so that is an encouragement, too. (I know that will slow when I progress to real food).

Good luck to all.

Deanna, I'm so glad to hear that you have come through so well! I work at a Univ. so I know how demanding two long lectures and office hours can be. You are a trooper! I'm positive that moving around after surgery is the best way to move healing along and this just supports my theory. ;)

Oh, and how is hubby doing? Any support from him yet?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
