Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me. I really don't know where to start I definetly need help and don't know where to turn. I'm a 27 yr old stay at home mom of a soon to be 3 year old. I am depressed, I feel worthless, I don't even look in the mirror anymore. I'm to embaressed to take my daughter to places, and even better myself and find a job. No one will want to hire me. I believe I'm on Medicad if that is goverment insurance through tje state. I'm probably close to 300 pounds I'm a border line diabetic and only 5 ft 2.

I guess what I'm asking is will medicad (if that's what I have) help me pay for this? If I was to try to get someone to help me pay for this or finance this what would it cost out of pocket? I want to get my life on track, I want better, and to be able to do for myself. My PCP just tells me I need to loose weight. I KNOW I have to I've tried. I need some help.

When I google "does medicaid cover lap band surgery" the concensus answer is to call your local social services office and see if you qualify because they do cover it subject to some restrictions and requirements (which were not listed)

Oh Sadmommy, don't be so sad. Like everyone is else saying take the first step by calling your insurance co. and see what is covered. Talk openly with your doctor. I was kinda embarrassed to talk to my dr at first. The same with me he'd tell me I needed to lose weight and I knew I was there to ask for surgery but just couldn't get it out. When I finally did he first explained to me the alternative ways of dropping the weight. We decided that persuing the surgery would be best for me. So the way my insurance works is I had to see a nutrisionist for 6 mo then get a psych clearance, and now I'm waiting for approval of consultation w/ surgeon. In the meantime I try to do things to keep the ball rolling forward for myself. Like walk a little more, play with the kids, clean you know be a little more active. I try to eat less carbs and make healthy choices because I want my kids to learn healthy habits. It starts out as a struggle but it can be done by taking one day at a time. Don't look at yourself the way you do. Those extra pounds don't make you who you are, you personality, dreams, goals, desires make you who you are. Whether or not this surgery is right for you or approved for you, you have to start with the inside first. The next time you do look in that mirror smile at yourself and know your are special person. ;)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
