My MD states that with healthy eating habits and great sleep the weight will come off easier. Has anyone experienced more weight loss since they have been using their mask to sleep at night? Do you really feel more refreshed? I have what they call Moderate Sleep Apnea. Any insight would be helpful.

I know there is a theory behind it and it involves eating more when you don't sleep as well due to lack of energy or something. I know I sleep much better with it and it's very possible for some that it might affect their eating. If it has affected me in such a way it is very slight, Nancy.

Prior to being diagnosed with sleep apnea, I flunked the preop breathing test and my oxygen level was low in my blood test that they have you take, I had no energy and was taking naps every day and had a difficult time falling asleep at night also. It didn't take them long at the sleep clinic to see I had many apneas during the night. I knew nothing about sleep apnea at the time. I've been using the mask, just covers the nose and use the humidifier in the winter, for just over a year and it has definitely affected the quality of my sleep in a positive way. Go to CPAPTALK.COM for questions regarding sleep apnea and machines etc.. it was very helpful to me, Nancy

i have had the lap band for almost 11 months and have had the same trouble sleeping as I used to have before. I have actually noticed it is worse than it used to be, but i do not believe its because of the lap band. And more sleep is better because you burn more calories while you are sleeping than you do just sitting down.

Good luck! If you have any sleeping tips, I'd love to hear them.

Before I used the machine regularly, I never "knew" that I wasn't breathing. Now I've been using my CPAP faithfully for a few years. If I try to sleep without it now, I wake myself up every time I stop breathing. This keeps me absolutely exhausted and I have a headache from the hypoxia (lack of oxygen in brain). There is no doubt that this plays in to how active I am during the day!

Thanks for the info I will go to CPAP talk and check it out I would like to see how many times they state I stopped breathing in the night. My husaband has it and doesn't use the machine and there ar enigh he wakes me up with his episodes. My hope is when I ge my machine and he sees how well I use it, it will motivate him to use his. :w00t:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
