Okay so all my stuff was submitted to the insurance exactly one week ago and i was told it would take 6 weeks to a month to get approved. So to my surprise i got a call today saying they got the approval and they have scheduled my surgery for Thursday!!!! I can't believe this has happened so fast it has taken less than a month from the first time i walked into the doctors office until now this is crazy. When i first went to the doctor they told me i would have to wait six months to do a presurgery diet so the insurance would approve it but i begged them to submit what i had and they did and it went through i am going crazy i was not ready for this. Any last minute tips of what i should run out and buy or have on hand.....I could scream i am so happy!!!!:tt1::wink2::wub::tt1::tt1::crying::confused2:

Congrats! I wish I could have gone that fast! I am still waiting for a date. I am military so going to the military hospital is more time consuming..... I am approved though....just waiting

hOw exciting for you...I waited it seems like forever but it was a semester before I had surgery...school teacher here...

Anyway, a heating pad for tummy / port area....and be prepared to WALK....I tell everyone this! I did not have any major pain or gas issues because as soon as I could I was up walking or sitting in the recliner....I was on a 23 hour hospital stay and I only slept like 4 hours that night...I was up walking....lapped that nurses station like crazy..

The other thing that was a HUGE LIFESAVER was the doctor gave me a script for a motion sickness patch...scalapia or something like that...

I put it on behind my ear the night BEFORE surgery...she said they found it helps to get it into the system before the nausea (ok I spelled that wrong!) gets started...I usually have a terrible throw up reaction to the meds they give to put you out...

So, you may want to call the dr. in the morning and ask about getting one called in????

GOOD LUCK!!!

The drug is called a "scopolamine patch" (I only know this because I'm a nurse and we use it frequently). It looks like one of those round bandaids and you just put it behind your ear and it's good for 72 hours.

Congratulations! I can only hope to get approved quickly (my paperwork goes in this week).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
