Stacyiam, so what was your experience at the hospital. Feb. 3 is coming fast and is there anything you can tell me that will make it easier. Thanks for all your help.

Take a pillow with you for the car ride home -- just to rest on your tummy. I took NO PAINKILLERS after the hospital, just regular tylenol. I had a very good recovery experience. Be sure you have the fluids/supplies at home so you don't have to run to the store. As far as the surgery -- I was very nervous but the staff was really nice. I just don't remember much of it at all. I don't remember the recovery room AT ALL I woke up in the same room that prepped me in... The facility is beautiful and new and clean. Not crowded or crazy at all...

My husband and Dad went with me. Just be sure you have someone to help with your kids for the first 2 - 3 days (if you have kids). My 2-yr-old was a bit difficult#@$

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Thanks Stacy, I have only a week left and I don't think it has sunk in yet. I will be getting nervious probably next Sat. and Sun. My husband and his mother will be with me that day, my son in grown and in the Air Force living in Japan. The only trouble I will probably have is the dogs. I'm sure my husband will take care of that.:(

Edwina63.

You are going to be just fine. It is just the fear of the unknown. But it is really not unknown. I had my surgery Oct. 3, 2008. All went well. I am 54 and I had no problems.

Like Stacyiam said, have plenty of liquids on hand. I found that warm liquids felt better. Cold drinks seem to restrict me. But everyone is different.

Just think, in just a few months you will be thinner and healthier. Month by month goes by and you get slimmer and slimmer and by next year at this time, A NEW YOU.

Take care.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Lone Star Loser.

Edwina, When I first got my band temp didn't matter for me. BUT since I have gotten an effective fill, warm things seem to be better for me (like Lonestarloser) especially in the morning when my band is tight. In the afternoon and evening I can have just about anything. I would like to get so that my band is a bit tighter in the p.m. as well. THAT is when I get tempted!

Hey Edwina63 so it's been 2 days how are you doing? Let us know, about this time I was on the web all day looking for others to talk to about what I was feeling and crazy thing also had the TV stuck on the food channel all day. Hey if I couldn't eat at least I could look at it.

Hope all went well. congrats it only gets better.

Hello Everyone, I made it. The surgery went pretty well. I had a little reaction to the IV. I hate needles and after she put the IV in I started sweating, nauseas, and started throwing up, nothing but liquids. My DH was holding the barf bag while I was throwing up. It seemed to last forever. I have never had an experience like that before. They put me on oxygen and I finally got it under control. I wasn't scared or nervous, maybe it was something they put in the IV. Anyway, the surgery went fine. She did take a biopsy of my liver, she said it was yellowish. Anyway, i was home by 2:00. The past several days have been hard but I'm making it. Nothing tastes the same. I don't know why but I'm having trouble even thinking of foods, let alone liquids. I have been living on broths, shakes, and Water (with CL). I've never been much of a drinker through out the day so I have to work on that to get my amount of liquids in. I have a little pain at the port site but I can handle it. It is slowing going away. How long did you guys stay on the liquids, 1 or 2 weeks? Some of the paperwork says 1 week and some say 2. Anyway, I have my follow up appointment with Dr. Marquez on the 18th. Any suggestions you can give would be most appreciated. I hope I haven't talked your ears off. My first week has been positive, I have already lost 20 lbs, but all liquids tends to do that.

Congratulations! I also had a hard time just wanting to drink enough Water --- but stick to it and keep it with you so you get your Fluid down... I did liquid for 10 days. BUT that included blended homemade Soup -- I made a yummy mexican Soup and then just used my hand blender to make it liquid -- it helped with the monotony of the same stuff and no "crunch" to the food. I used all the spices I like and it was GOOD!

Try that and maybe you'll find it is better... There is no "too much talking" on the board --- we are in this to help one another out. Keep us posted :-)

HI Edwina63,

YOur doing great! Yeah the paperwork says 2 weeks but it's pretty much liquids then slowly move on to baby food consistency when you can tolerate it. I started on the baby food end of week 1, well by baby food I mean anything I could blend in the blender or bullet went in there. I really got hooked on deviled eggs in the bullet, the consistency was perfect for me. But Dr. will tell you that when you go in tomorrow.

Congrats on the 20 lbs thats tremendous for only 2 weeks!

I see Dr. Nancy Marquez. I will be banded on "Fat Tuesday" February 24th. I really love Dr. Marquez and everyone in the office. I am very confident that she will be a motivator as well as Jerry, the nutritionist. He never minds any of my calls which reassures me that I am in good hands. I am most anxious to begin as I have been working on this roller coasters since July 10th. I now see the end of tunnel but the beginning on getting to the other side! I have really learned many useful ideas that I will definitely how me with my journey. I have lost 12 pre-op pounds and still have 4 days of Atkins and 1 day of just liquids the day before. I'm ready and ask for your thoughts and prayers as I pray for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
