6 mo diet, can't lose weight, is it okay?

Recommended Posts

I am going to my 3rd month dr. visit this week and I can't seem to stick with the low fat diet I promised my dr. I would do. So far I have not lost any weight. Is this going to hurt my chances of getting approved or do they only look at the fact that I have gone 6 times in a row? I am always a late bloomer and I can probably lose some weight the last month if I really tried. This is a bad outlook, but right now I cannot seem to stick with it.:crying:

Thanks.

Dana

I finished my 6 month diet in July. I lost some weight the first two months then gained in the third went down a little in the fourth then back up again in the fifth and no change in the sixth. In the end I was down 10 pounds total. I know I could have done better but my nutritionist was more concerned with my getting healthy than losing weight.

We submitted my paperwork on August 14th and I got my approval today!!! So don't fret! I got an initial denial but only because they were missing some info, so make sure they have everything required and you should be fine.

I feel your pain I have been on the 6 month Diet and have been up and down from 260 day one up to 263 down to 262.5 to now 262 as of yesterday I have to be @ 250 before I can start my liquid pre-op diet. Last night I cried myself to sleep wondering what is wrong with me. So today I sat and re-read my logs that I have to keep and had a long hard look and decided to put in 110% and see where it takes me this week!! LOL... I said goodbye to the Choclate Chip cookie a day!! I also started a thread early yesterday asking for advice on how to kick these 10 lbs and received lots of great advice ....WATER.. PROTEIN( lean)...Veggies....WATER... Water... and no caffinated beverages.. I'm a 5 cup a day coffee drinker so that is going to be tough today.

As everyone says it didn't come on overnight so we aren't going to get rid of it overnight but with strength & perserverance we can do it

Honestly, the focus should be on finding a healthier lifestyle that will ensure long-term success.... If the changes are hard for you now, how will they be once the surgery takes place?

It's tough, I don't discount that... but the focus shouldn't be so short term. If success seems elusive, you may want to evaluate what is causing the issue and making it so hard in the first place. Remember that the band or bypass are only part of the equation. You need to make some serious changes if you expect either one to work properly.

Write a dairy of food you are eating. When I did this I realized it was not really low fat .Get the Calorie king book like four dollar at Walmart.< /p>

It helps realize how many calories low fat really has. Keep your chin up they really want to know if you can your eating lifestyle for a more successful lap band experience. Good Luck

Thanks everyone for the inspiration !!! I know this is a "life" change and I need to take things one day at a time. I just found out my husband has to go on medication because they feel that it's on onset of Type 2 Diabeties so this change that I'm making will not be just for me it will be for our entire family. "Just1more" thank you for the email I will start the lists tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
