I was banded on Tuesday and am on my fourth day of the liquid diet. I love to drink clamato and I like to spice it up. Also, I like Tomato Soup a little spicy. Is there anything wrong with spices, pepper or spicy-ness in general?

Any info would be great!

Lindsay

I did V-8 juice on day 4 and have regretted it since. It started irritating my stomach, then I PB'd on Jello on day 5, then days 6 & 7 I was only able to drink about 50-60ml (that's ml's, not ounces) of Fluid, PB'd on a Gas-X, wasn't able to swallow my own spit for at least 20 minutes, landed in the hospital for 3 bags of Fluid over the weekend, then by week 1 banded, I was finally able to start over at day 1. Needless to say, I left out anything Tomato, or the least bit acidic. All is fine now, and this is just me, but I'd run for the hills before I'd drink tomato juice or anything like it.

I think spicy is okay, just not acidic. Wait a few more weeks. You'll drink clamato again, don't worry.

Thanks for the info. I have had some V8 and clamato but I am going to stop for now. Makes me too nervous.

Thanks again!

acid foods are recommended to be avoided for a while after banding. Spicy foods, as well as acidic foods cause lots of churn, which is to be avoided during the healing stages.

Cheers!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
