Recently banded-- need advice. PLEASE READ!

Hi, everyone!

So I was finally banded on August 20th and I have to say, I feel way worse than I expected.

I had my surgery on Wednesday and took the rest of the week to recuperate. It's not so much discomfort from the band-- that part is exactly how I pictured it would be, and it seems to be working well. I've been following the post op diet and such and it's been going pretty well.Today is Monday and I am back at work... and I just feel AWFUL!

Let me explain. For starters, I have 4 incisions, 3 of the are half and inch and the largest is an inch. It is located about 3 inches up and one inch to the left of my belly button. The doctor used surgical glue to seal the wound, so it is not leaking at all, but it's very painful and has a deep red/purple/blue bruise around it that started growing from day 1. By day 3 it was the size of a baseball, round, and very, very numb. I thought that the numbness was due to the On-Q Pain Buster they used to numb the site of the incisions afterwards... but today is day 6 and it's still really numb and hot to the touch. There's a sharp pain when I breathe, which is keeping me from taking deep breaths, which might explain why I've been so tired.

I don't think it's infected, but then again, I'm not a doctor. I called the office for the follow up, but they said I'd have to wait two weeks to see my surgeon again, due to his busy schedule. I'm really frustrated about it and I'm pretty uncomfortable.

Anybody have the same issues? Am I just nuts??? Please help! I'd love to hear from others about their post-op issues!

Hello,

I am not an expert, but I am a Nurse Practitioner. It sounds as though you may have a hematoma, in which case you need to see your md, if he refuses, go to the ER NOW!

I was banded on the 15th and has almost all those symptoms. I have five incisions the largest is probably 2 inches. I also have the glue. I had some pretty significant brusing, but it did not grow in size. Over the weekend the bruising completely went away, so it took a little over a week. I have very fair skin and bruise easily, so thay looked pretty nasty. I still can not take a full breath without discomfort. It is worse after eating something. I went back to work way to soon, I have to sit all day, and that made my pain at my incisions terrible, maybe that's what is happening to you. I would definantly insist on seeing someone. Hang in there it gets better day by day.

Hi...I am sorry you are suffering. I do not have the incisions, I only have like small puncture holes (6 of them), and they are healing just fine. However, I DO HAVE the breathing issue! Just now I am back to almost normal breathing, however, it took me the full 7 days to get it back. What helped me was using that breathing aparatus they gave me in the hospital where you suck in the air in the tube. I can not remember what they called it. Also, I did a lot of walking, this seemed to open up my airwaves. I hope this helps you!

Hi, I was banded on the 27th. I had all your symptoms. The large scar was 'hot' to the touch and I had bruises that were large and also a few popped up after surgery. I am now almost 2 weeks post op and none of my symptoms are still there except the large scar is tender. I still have bruises. You might want to just pop by the doctors office and say "hey, was wondering if someone could take a look at these REAL QUICK". Call first to see if when your doctor is in the office.

I hope you get better fast! Kathy S.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
