The Exercise Guy 0 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi All. I am an exercise physiologist that has been asked to begin a post Lap Band group exercise program in my city. The first Lap Band surgeries are underway at the new clinic in town. I am looking for feedback from recipients for a few different things....first, what type of programs have you been involved in and what did you like/dislike about them? What were the biggest obstacles to participation or continued involvement? And finally, does anyone know of any quality GROUP exercise programs being run around the country? Thanks in advance! The Exercise Guy.
Gone4Now 4 Posted August 25, 2008 Is your city Houston???? If so, sign me up! I need more motivation. My .02: Unfortunately, I haven't been involved with too many programs. I just started the couch to 5k run program and I've been enjoying that. My biggest obstacle is myself and my laziness. Good luck!
ajoneen 0 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi Guy, you have your work cut out for you. There are so many different types of people getting banded. I think you will have to have a few different groups. Never exercised, Still very heavy and can't move much, Fat former jocks, and so on. I did hear of a program in Maine that is linked to the Lapband program. A lot of resistance bands and exercise ball. I think it was free and mandatory for all clients. Two things that in my opinion are very good. Can't remember the hospital, sorry. I have a trainer because I don't do the group thing well. I don't need anyone looking to/at me. Trying to not trip over my feet is hard enough without worrying how I look. The couch to 5k is a very popular option here on LBT. I like it because I can do it at my pace if needed and has a person "coaching" me on. I find support (anonymously) from the others on the thread going through the same sh*t I am. Good luck.
