So, I tried to be as "normal" as possible this weekend even though I was just banded last monday. Saturday my husband wanted to go out for the day so we drove to Lancaster to do some shopping. I felt really good until I made a big mistake at lunch. I drank my tea through a straw and had broth from creamy Soup. My shoulder/gas pain came back with a vengance. It took about 2 hours to feel a little better.

We stopped for dinner on the way home and I had broth from vegetable soup and drank from the glass and felt grea.

Yesterday we had a wedding to go to. I knew I would not be able to eat anything at the wedding so I drank a Protein Shake before I went and I did fine. The dinner was filet mignon and crab cake with potatoes and green Beans. I did not touch a thing but my husband (the one who calls me lazy for not just dieting and losing weight and who is obese himself) ate his AND my dinners!!!!

Today I am back to work and I really feel good. I am one week out and I got a good night's sleep in my own bed last night (bye-bye recliner) and I am ready! I hope I can make it through a 13 hour workday but I feel like I can do anything right now.

I hope you all are doing well and that I have encouraged you a bit.:)

Good for you ! I was also banded last week (Tuesday) I ventured out on my own to do some light shopping yesterday and was only a little uncomfortable while driving. I also go back to work today but feel like I will be fine. I have not had any shoulder/gas pains at all which amazes me. Good job handling that wedding ! My husband is very supportive, though, seeing me struggle for many years with my weight. He said if this will make me feel better then he is on board. Good luck to both of us today !

Good luck to both of you! Wow, you were are off and running less than a week after your surgeries. I was still taking it easy although I had a pretty easy time, too. I am exactly seven weeks out today. Feeling pretty good, too. Have a great day but don't forget you did have the surgery only a week ago! Take it easy, don't forget, you are still healing! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
