I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op and starting having headaches about 5 days ago which is unusual for me. I was thinking I was dehydrated but I'm getting enough Fluid in. Has anyone else experienced headaches post op that didn't normally get them? It's probably nothing but just I'd ask.

Hi. first congrats on your surgery! I am not banded, but I have read several threads about headaches. I don't know if they go away, but it seems to be a common complaint. I wonder if it has anything to do with withdrawal symptons from maybe carbs? I am not completely sure, but it does appear to be common post op.

I haven't taken pain meds since the first week of surgery so I don't think it's because I'm not taking them anymore.

I stopped eating a lot of carbs and sugar in March when I went on the pre-op diet and haven't had caffeine since then so I don't think it's related. Maybe it's just a something unrelated to the band altogether.

When's the last time you had your eyes checked? Where on your head is the headache?

I had my eyes checked 3 months ago. The headache is pretty much all over. I took Tylenol a few hours ago and it's still there.

I started with headaches Friday. I was outside with my students doing an activity. I can't drink a lot of Water at once, so I don't think I got enough in me to counter the heat. I do feel my headache started from slight dehydration. I don't know how I am going to up my Water intake, but I have got to try. I still have the headache now. Geez. Are you consuming enough water? If so, how do you get it all in?:)

Long2Bfree ... if it's all over, then it isn't sinus, or just stress. If you are hydrated (and you know you are) then I'm at a loss. I'd keep an "eye" on it and check with my doc if they didn't improve, especially since you know your BP etc are all ok!

I know it seems odd to ask him but different surgeons have different rules and it makes sense. They are all human and have their own way of doing the surgery and their patients are bound to heal diffently! So good luck I hope he tells you it's ok!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
