maleliz777 0 Posted August 24, 2008 I got banded on 8/20 and im having a hard time getting the shakes down. They make me feel like im going to throw up and i easily tolerated them before. I have eaten puddin and yogurt and that does not do this. Is it ok for me not to take them and just get Protein from yogurt?
auntlucy 22 Posted August 24, 2008 You definitely need the Protein supplements. I doubt you can get enough at this stage from yogurt. Have you tried the Protein Bullets? If not, you might want to try them. They are not like the thick powdery protein supplements. They are the consistency of jell-o before it sets and they come in fruity flavors. 1 bullet has 42 g of protein. I divide them into 2 and mix 1/2 with a glass of crystal light. The fruit punch flavored crystal light with the fruit punch bullet is really good.
MissBS 3 Posted August 24, 2008 Hi auntlucy. Who makes the bullets and where do you get them. I've never heard of them and I'm making a list of post-op hints. Thanks!!
*slim* 2 Posted August 24, 2008 Hi auntlucy. Who makes the bullets and where do you get them. I've never heard of them and I'm making a list of post-op hints. Thanks!! Hi. Of course, I am not not auntlucy, but I saw them on the vitaminshoppe website. Here is the link: Vitamins, Nutritional Health supplements & Herbal Remedies - VitaminShoppe.com It's by IDS sports. You can do a search for that brand and it comes right up. I haven't tried them but every forum that I have been on says that they are great.
auntlucy 22 Posted August 24, 2008 I ordered mine from www.supplements.net. See link below: New whey liquid Protein 42g - 12 Vials by IDS Sports, supplements.Net Other stores may carry them. I think The Vitamin Shoppe does. But, I found the best price at supplements.net. I hope this helps!
marynascar 0 Posted August 24, 2008 I am surprised that you are even allowed to eat pudding and yogurt at this stage...only 4 days out. I was banded on the 19th and can't "eat" anything until one week which is Wednesday. Till then it's all liquids. I am using 100% whey Protein shake powder that you add to Water (chocolate caramel flavor) It's really not to bad tasting. Good Luck Mary

Kerri 0 Posted August 24, 2008 Helo - I was just banded on 8/6 and I had exactly the same problem. For the post-op diet, I was able to tolerate different shakes but post-op they all made me sick. I went through every Protein drink/shake/smoothis I could find and could not find any that did not make me gag. I was on the Protein shake diet for 2 weeks and because I was not getting enough Protein and calories - about 1/2 the dailt intake - I got very weak. I had no energy and just rested all day. I couldn't even shower on my own (the one time I tried I started to black out). Have you tried HMR 500 chicken Soup? HMR is a food program similar to Nutrisystem. The chicken Soup is higher in protein and has only 100 calories. It comes in a single serve packet - just mix w/ hot Water. They call it soup but it is more just like a creamier chicken broth and doesn't taste bad at all. It is a little expensive - about $50 w/ S&H - and you can only order it online. (www.hmrprogram.com) I also checked with my Dr. about other options and she also suggested a home-made egg drop soup. Heat fat free chicken broth and just before boiling slowly stir in egg whites. there are still some things I do not like - I have always had Crystal Light but now it just doesn't taste right. It's really weird. I am having much better luck with the soft foods and have tolderated everything I have tried. I feel so much better and I am going back to work tomorrow. I hope everything goes well and I was some help. Feel free to contact me if you need any more details, too!
ellendeette 1 Posted August 25, 2008 I love my Protein shakes. You have to experiment to find the ones you enjoy. I don't know if you have Trader Joe's in your area but I regularly buy their chocolete and vanilla. I put the cans in my refrigerator so they get very cold. I use my blender "bullet" (or any blender will do). I add frozen fruit (blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc.) into the vanilla and add a 1/4 cup (or so) of milk and blend the hell out of it. I also put frozen banana into the chocolete flavor (along with milk). You can also add cinnamin to the vanilla (also along with milk). I also love this coffee-flavored Protein Drink that comes in a glass container. I'm out of it right now. I think its called Acheive. I think it tastes better than any coffee drink at Starbucks. I also make this VERY COLD and store in my refrigerator. I've been told we need to take in 50 to 70 grams of Protein EVERY DAY. I usually have one Protein Drink a day. I also have protein pudding by Sly Stallone (don't recall the name of it). I add whipping topping on it and it tastes great. Good luck to you!
nomadem 1 Posted August 25, 2008 sf pudding mixes added to what ever type of Protein Drinks have helped me get them down.
kirsty39 0 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi, I also had a terrible time with the Protein Shakes, I went to GNC and bought something called Isopure. It comes in 20 ounce bottles, many flavors, kinda taste like a kool aid drink, I could make it last 1/2 day and it has 40 grams Protein in them!!!! Thats huge. I suggest trying these. They got me through the first 2 weeks. (about 4.29 per 20 ounce bottle) but worth it! you wont need them anymore very very soon! good luck
Lanakila 1 Posted August 25, 2008 I've learned that I have to leave the powdered shakes all mixed up in the fridge overnight. It gives the powder a longer time to dissolve and makes it taste MUCH better! I also treated myself to a Blender Ball cup which really mixes things up and doesn't require any electricity so it's good on the go. I got my latest one at GNC.< /p>
sararsnbm 0 Posted August 26, 2008 Hello - I was banded on Friday and I am headed into Stage 2 adding Protein and cream Soups tomorrow. Can I add Peanut Butter into my Protein Shakes during this stage? I mix everything up in my bullet. If someone could let me know that would be great, would love to add a little flavor to the mix. aremers 0 Posted August 26, 2008 im not sure about Peanut Butter but instead of Protein Shakes i do the carnation instant Breakfast packages. i use 2 packages with 16 oz of low-fat milk. this give you about 25 g Protein.< /p>
Andrea20405 0 Posted August 26, 2008 Consider avoiding the "shake" consistancy. Here are some suggestions for some Protein mixes that are more of a beverage than a shake. I was referred to unjury brand Protein Powder from another member of this site. They have 4 flavors. They strawberry one I mix with lemon crystal light and it tastes just like a strawberry lemonade, and its like a regular beverage, not thick like a shake. The chocolate flavor I mix with skim milk and its like a great chocolate milk. Some mix in a touch of coffee for a mocha effect (like those Starbucks Frap bottles) but I don't like coffee so I cant attest to that. They also have a chicken Soup flavor which is good for me because I am not big on sweets. I heat it up and eat the "soup" for lunch. They mix well, no chunks, and the flavor is great with no aftertaste. Syntrax nectar is another one to try, available at a Vitamin shop, in tropical fruit flavors. Like drinking juice. Good luck, and just keep trying.
