Milk and Milk Products Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi. My doctor said that I could have sugar free fat free Jello pudding during my pre-op diet. I can find sugar free in the stores. Is there such a thing as sugar free AND fat free that you can buy or does that mean you have to make it with skim milk. Also after surgery, I have read both skim milk and lowfat milk - I can do 1% but skim is kinda like white Water to me. If I have to do skim I will. I'm sure my doctor will tell me when I go down for my procedure but I was wondering what you all know about this. Also - after surgery - Cereal? ?? Thanks in advance for your replies!! I love this site!!!

You can buy sugar free/fat free but only in a box. You can mix it with milk.

Different Doctors have different rules. My doctors say no cereal hot or cold, while I have read that some people can have cereal. It all depends on the doctor. Same with some Soups. I was told that the liquids in the soups helps the food through the stoma. The rule about not drinking liquids with meals is the same concept. Do what ever your doctor has told you to do. That is the best bet. Good luck.

When you buy skim milk, look for 'skim plus' from Hiland Milk or 'Skim Delight' from Borden Milk, somehow they make skim milk taste fuller, less watery. Best wishes with your surgery, I hope to be joining the ranks of the 'scheduled' myself!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
