targa 0 Posted August 24, 2008 Hi Everyone- I have seen several postings of people saying what size band they have...I guess I do not understand this. Do they Dr.'s put different sizes in based on your weight, or how is that determined? Do the smaller sizes allow for less weight loss because they can not be filled as much as the larger ones? I did talk with my Dr. about my port...he only uses the low profile, but I did not know they banded you with different sizes. Is there a benefit to having a certain size over another? As always, thanks so much!
jazie 0 Posted August 24, 2008 I am curious about that also. My dr doesn't like to tell but he will if you insist.
Snowgator 3 Posted August 24, 2008 The size band depends on the diameter of your stomach. A person with a higher BMI is likely to need a larger size band than a person with a lower BMI to start with. The port on the allergan band is taller than the port on the Realize band, so it depends on which brand of lap band your doctor uses. Your weight loss should not vary based on band size, it depends on your compliance, and how much saline is injected into your band over time to narrow the stoma opening.
